I've managed to get it run at 40FPS/40Hz in most places with some tweaks. I've installed it on a 1TB aftermarket SSD (roughly 3000MB/s write/read), 4GB dedicated GPU memory set in BIOS + Cryo Utilities 2.0 recommended settings (a third party memory optimization tool) and some some serious graphic's quality reduction, in order to save on memory bandwidth (low/medium settings and either no AA or lower resolution + FSR). I get occasional framedrops still, specifically with particle-heavy spells or in certain places in the overworld, while looking at the Erdtree (e.g. around Church of Elleh in Limgrave). In these situations, FPS will drop further in online mode and post Fire Giant.
40FPS looks surprisingly smooth on a small display, but the Deck will sound like a jet and the battery life is about an hour less compared to 30FPS (which it holds solidly) at native res with AA and medium/high settings.
Personally, i think i'll stick to 30FPS with cranked down camera-sensitivity, to make the ghosting less noticeable. I guess i can always console myself, knowing it's still smoother than BB on the PS4.
thanks for the review, i was gonna buy steam deck but if it can't run elden ring smoth in atleast very lowest setting, i wont buy it.
I have mine running stable at 40 FPS with a mix of mostly high settings and maybe 2 or 3 settings set at medium. The anti-aliasing is very good btw, and the gameplay is smooth. I have not tried to run with low settings to attempt to achieve 60 FPS, because I haven't felt the need on my end, but I'm sure it can achieve 60 FPS if everything is set to low.
