Controller buttons not showing?

Hello. I am using a controller to play, but the on-screen button prompts keep showing keyboard bindings instead of the appropriate controller bindings. I was super excited to try this game, but this is bumming me out. Can anyone help, please?

Go to sound and display settings and change "Device for on screen prompts" to gamepad

Some games don't show controller buttons unless the controller is plugged in before loading the game. I haven't tried with Elden Ring since I"m just used to doing that after discovering the phenomena with other games - but maybe it's that?

What kind of controller do you use?

Are there other USB-devices plugged into your computer, besides KB/`&M? If yes, try unplugging them.

Are you using controller software, like Steam Input? I'm asking, because you can configure these to either emulate XBOX controllers or KB&M inputs and if you've done the latter, you get KB&M prompts.

Thanks! Insane that DS2 has this feature but no other games in the Souls series do, except maybe DS3?
