ELDEN RING

ELDEN RING

Why is the Player Character [Tarnished] so overpowered?
I'd like to know how the player character became so strong, right out of the (First Step, Grace point) gate.

For reference, Godfrey was the first to become Elden Lord and this guy can cause a cataclysmic event with his hands alone. You as the tarnished player character HAVE to defeat him to finish the game, regardless of what direction you're going with the RP endings.

Another such mandatory boss fight is Maliketh whom the demi-gods themselves feared. There's a real chance this guy could've put the fear in just about anyone we fight as the PC and with good reason too. He possesses the rune of death and this very thing was used to kill Godwyn, causing the first true death to occur in this realm for literally ages.
He also ends up using this very thing against us when we fight him.

Of course, we as the player character slap him around like a street mutt.

If that wasn't enough, we end up killing an actual god and the very source behind its godhood. Even if we assume the PC has the rune of death in their possession at this point, I have my doubts as to how it could be used against the Elden Beast due to its nature.

Even Godrick and certainly Margit, could take out just about anything less than a demi-god. Yes, Godrick supposedly hid among the women after he knew Malenia was coming for him, but again, Malenia could make just about anyone ♥♥♥♥♥ themselves so even a "coward" like Godrick would be impossible for anything lesser to kill.

We don't start out with a great rune either and none of the backgrounds of the classes really gives any clue on how your character could be the next Horah Loux or whatever.

There's a few other Tarnished we know about who became very strong I guess.

  • Vyke who earned the favor of the dragons
  • Knight (Recusant) Bernahl

But can you honestly imagine either of those two accomplishing what the PC ends up doing? I don't know, it just doesn't sit too well with me. We have this elaborate world building and here comes a level 1 Wretch clubbing a literal god to death.

    What's your take on it?

Don´t bother with this guy, it´s probably just his weird way of bragging and his inability to imagine that there are people who are less skilled and who maybe just maybe also want an enjoyable game that is not so hard that only the top five percent of the most skilled players ever can enjoy.

@Humpenstilzchen, that would be a really weird thing to brag about, yeah, especially because it's not the case for me. I absolutely struggled greatly against Maliketh on my first attempt. I don't know why some of you, including you, are incapable of separating critique of this game, versus being criticized personally. This was and has continued to remain a conversation about the implications settled via the lore not gameplay. Yes, there was a cheeky joke in there about level 1 wretch from me, but I have neither the patience, nor the interest in taking on such a challenge, as in, I never did it myself.

I've had to repeat myself many times over, because I actually don't mind reiterating to those who are interested in discussing the above, so long as they don't come at it sneering and arrogant (or most pathetic of all; Hurt and offended).

I've had at least a couple of points that were sufficiently convincing arguments against my perception of the tarnished being strong when the PC faces Margit and Godrick, cannonically for the first time, but at this point I honestly am tired of rephrasing the same things and most people moved on to talk with me and others about other things.

This is NOT a conversation on gameplay, but the above should hopefully tell you I have no intention of pretending I'm better than you, because I'm not.

when it comes down to it the reason we win is simple: in a pantheon of gods none can be omnipotent, and if thats the case, you can eventually win.

the PC isn't overpowered, he just uses tools and actually improves until he can win.
Interesting question interesting takes. Here's mine (not finished the game yet but interested about the lore and read a lot while played)
As I see the world is kinda stopped and its not good. The Greater will not look that great overall for the world. First I thought it was Marika stopped things being dead and started killing everything can challenge her power then lost his son and shattering...etc but if anything really want to stop challenging its power its that so called "greater will".
Later we learned from Ranni once you become god the greater will will kinda use you and she don't want that so much she rather kill her body and live in a doll so can escape.
For me now look like Marika want to get rid of the greater will and ready to make sacrifice for it. She is the one control who can live and who should die (or rather jsut stay in the three) as all soul get to the erdthree. She is on your side and keep you alive so you do what you need to and one way or another will reach some change. Most of the others you meet are there since a while and many of them have no free get out from the erdthree card. Most of the demigods and gods already rotten, crazy, plagued weak. Everything is in ruin. This live forever stuff probably going on since a while and the world is just can't cope with it too well. You can die a lot as long as you ready to finish off the three you will live. The moment you stop playing you loose this...
Will see how it change in my head once I finished the game.

You didnt do it all alone. You get given a bell and horse that belonged to a demigod before you fight Margit. Ontop of that you had people like Rogier backing you up in some boss fights. As for killing gods you only beat a full god after you have at least 3 fragments of the thing that governs the rules of reality inside you...wait 4, the rune of death. Forgot thats technically a great rune. so you are beyond the demigods since they only have 1 each. Keep in mind the rune of death is so op that it literally can destroy 2fingers.
So, I am not 100% deep into the Elden Ring Story and lore. I am just beginning to really get a full grasp on it. But my thoughts are that you're kinda "The chosen one"

I mean what is the ultimate thing that everything is about? Many would say the Elden Ring, it's in the title after all but that's because "The greater will" isn't as cool of a title. Now the greater will of course only cares about "Order". It's not even necessarily relevant how Order is achieved and maintained, just that it is.

And the issue with it all is that the whole Marika family tree is everything but not orderly.

Therefore to achieve order once again, the greater will chooses the tarnished to bring down these demigods and to ultimately restore order and to do that you are blessed by the greater will and are able to become a very powerful warrior and in a way "The champion of the greater will". That's why every ending is in a way a right ending, since one way or another, order is restored even if it's ironically through chaos.

Again, I am not fully into the lore as of yet but that's how I interpret the whole story.
