Fight is easy if you overwhelm him.
Best way is to use Mimic-tear and Serpent Hunter Upgraded to +9.
Also, don't kill him until you have completed All of Volcano Manor Quests as well as Zorayas Questline.
After defeating him, upgrade his sword. His Sword is one of the best in game.
And Once you defeat him, don't forgot to fast travel back to his location for a surprise.

No reason for mimic or an upgraded serpent hunter. Just use the hunter, go straight to his body and smash him, standing in the middle of the lava, it doesn't even hurt you much. Go to his side or back and you're out of his reach. In phase one he does barely anything, he cannot reach you with his head. In phase two he jumps and swirls a couple of times but is also mostly helpless. Just heal and keep smashing.
It's a terrible boss.
