Good magic spells are all kinda early/mid game while incantations(mostly fire) are all pretty late game....
With my mage char I already felt broken OP in early game, you get comet early and a few other spells, you get like 90% of all good spells you want in the first two areas after that its just leveling up, doing liurnia and caelid will give you close to everything you need to be "broken" strong.

With my Pyro build it feels like half of the good stuff is only at the mountain tops, the giants seal, the giants pyro book and a few other things, I wish they would have put the good Incantation also in early or mid game because it really feels like with mage you get everything easy in first 20 hours and with pyro or lightning you only get it in the last 2 areas of the game.
You also get the better magic buff talisman pretty free while you have to do a whole questline up until melenia for the incatations buff talisman.

I have no idea what your early game route looks like, but it sounds like you're missing out on Dragon Communion and Beast stuff. An early Arcane or Strength incant build is one of my favorite things to start with, as you can relatively easily stat-up for both spell damage and melee damage, until mid to late where more memory slots are available.

There are so many incants to choose from early on which absolutely wreck face harder than any spell I've used, and the drawback versus them is typically range and efficiency. I recommend exploring incants a bit longer.

You can pyro/incant with high Int.

Yeah, IDK why it's like that. My Prophet had a rough time early-game. I had to partially rely on not very good melee.

I feel like a lot of the sorceries I ended up using were actually found mid-game. Also, many early-game sorceries (ex: Crystal Barrage) are too FP-inefficient to use early-game. But they shine late-game.

thats why I was writing mostly fire also by it, you are forced to use incantations that doesen't fit at all to something like pyro or a lightning character until late game, ya beast stuff is great but feels "wrong" as a pyro character, while mage its just all magic and you get the most broken stuff in first two areas
