Dismounting doesn't work (half the time)

So I just lost all of my souls and I'm pissed. I have to vent to feel better about it.

I died against the Lava Wyrm in the Volcano Manor area. I rode back to where I died, the Lava Wyrm runs towards me, I try to dismount and pick up my souls but I swear the dismounting button just doesn't work. I keep pressing the crouch button to quickly dismount but it JUST DOESN'T WORK! The Lava Wyrm arrives and oneshots me.

I remember this problem when I first played the game a year ago. Why has this still not been fixed? Why can't you just let me dismount reliably every time I press the dismount button? Is this really so difficult to program?

yeah I hate that it works half of the times.
btw you can pick up the runes even while you're on torrent, no need to dismount just for that.

You have to be on what the game considers to be a flat surface. It can be really picky sometimes.

▲ This. Also, the same thing can happen when you find yourself outside, behind the Bestial Sanctum, on horseback, standing on one of the slopes of the tiered sections.

I'd also like to point out that horse controls in ER are generally awful in comparison to almost any other game with horses. It's like that donkey is actively fighting you every time you tell it to do something.
