Recovery of smithing stones of all types
Tough game for me but enjoying it. There will be some battles I will never win, my skills are just not good enough but that's okay. I am still exploring after 200 + hours, (I don't know exactly how many hours, I haven't check in a while).

This is one thing I would like to see though and I don't think it would "break" the game. I would like to be able to recover my smithing stones. I can't yet get to areas where the appropriate ball bearing is located. And I have experimented with different weapons as a part of my enjoyment of the game. That leaves me with weapons, a couple, that I really like but I can't improve them because I used that specific stone on another weapon.

Why can't I disassemble some of the weapons I have modified and recover the smithing stones i have found and fought for? How about it From? What say you?

How do you recover a smithing stone? I mean, it literally turns to dust during the process. What kind of magic would remove sharpness from a weapon an make it into a stone again? What about the energy lost to entropy? It's impossible.

you should be able to progress while you obtain the next tier of bell bearing or whatever. just experiment with weapons and keep them within the level you are able to purchase.

Google "smithing stone locations", "somber smithing stone locations". Go pick up/buy the ones you haven't gotten yet. Some regular merchants sell them in limited quantities. The dungeons with monster mining in them are covered in smithing stones. Look for the glowing gold/silver pointy rocks sticking up from the ground or walls.

Once you get the bell bearings you can just buy as many as you need up until the final upgrade, you only get so many of those.

Lastly, you don't need to be good to progress in this game. While there's no difficulty setting you can toggle in a menu there are definitely easy modes. (use youtube guides, farm runes and over level your character, upgrade and use spirit summons, summon other players, choose weapons with OP abilities like takers flame which allows you to R spam your way through the game obliterating everything in front of you while simultaneously healing yourself etc.)

Keep progressing through the game, you can do it.

Thanks for the sincere remarks. I get it. And I am working on my git gud. At 73 I just don't have the fine muscle movements in my hands I had when I was twelve. LOL

I'm at level 110 now and don't have a problem with the minions but would like to beef up a couple of items to help me in boss fights. I think my Claymore is at the end of it's run.

I have this giant hook/claw thing, is it worth upgrading? It's a Starfalling beast jaw bone (to the best of my knowledge).

BTW thanks to Magic A.I for a lesson in the application, and practical use, of magic. ;-)

https://eldenring.wiki.fextralife.com/Upgrades

check that page out, bookmark it if you want.

see where it lists the individual stones? click a link for the level you're interested in. the following page will have a brief list of where that stone is located (other than you buying them from the 2fingers babe with the hunchback at the round table after giving her a "bell bearing")

https://eldenring.wiki.fextralife.com/Interactive+Map

you can also use this, to the right you have filters. make sure nothing is checked in blue except "Upgrade Materials"

you can zoom in and out, and click on individual stones it will give a summery of where that specific stone is located.

if you don't understand something just ask to clarify

ALSO- i wouldn't spend stones randomly upgrading each weapon you have. once you have the bell bearing for a tier of stone- then you can experiment with upgrades without a limited supply of stones.

and when it comes to weapon upgrades- that dictates who you can summon for co-op and who can summon you. so you don't want to max out at +25 on your weapon, or +10 on a special weapon. but do what you feel is comfortable.

I like the idea of being able to break down a weapon you have upgraded so that you could get the smithing stones for another weapon. The game has lots of them but the odds of you finding them in a first play thru is pretty low. Consider the broken down weapon destroyed so that there is some penalty.

I would rather have them outright remove weapon upgrades as a mechanic and have stat scaling be the primary way damage increases.

Especially because ER completely ruined the lore behind stones and reduced them to rock with a number next to it.
