Or bitcoin farming peoples GPU's without their knowledge.
They aren't charging for the mod. They are charging for access to their patreon page which happens to include the mod, among other things, which is perfectly legal.
No one forces you to play the mod. If you are upset about the paywall, make your own mod, make it free and enjoy it with others.
Garden of Eyes reselling assets from other games and free work from other modders is just a ♥♥♥♥ move on their part and only an addition that has nothing to do with it, because the point is modding this game in any way is not allowed to begin with.
I'm not a stickler regarding modding, and I can see that a patreon to support a modder is okay. However, a given mod should only be behind a paywall as long as it is unfinished (which is what many Skyrim modders for example are doing - when it's released, it's free), and just reusing assets/code from others and asking users to pay is indeed absolutely ****ty behavior. No, I have not checked this - this is just my opinion on the matter in general.
GOE is isnt reselling ER or selling assets at all.
You do think free mods with an executable file would etxactly do that eh?
I guess you dont know what mod loader 2 uses? :o
And let's not talk about the "will be released for free when completed" BS because they made mods that are already complete and they never released them for free like they claim to do.
Flying Hippogriff Mount? Sauron/Balrog boss fights? "Let Me Solo Her" Spirit Summon? That last one is even longer than a year old and it was never updated with any changes and much less released for free, because duh, that's all the mod does and it's already completed.
Mod Engine is an open source project, Garden of Eyes requires user to run an executable file that has nothing to do with Mod Engine and don't share any source code.
this is true. people who didn't know that nexusmods exists thought they had to pay for the seamless co-op mod, by participating in this guy's patreon. it was shady as f.
I'd argue that they're even worse, because at least in the case of gaming companies like EA and Blizzard I mentioned were just a bunch of people working hard making games. They only got corrupt and greedy when they grew big. Garden of Eyes were corrupt and greedy from the start.
I'm looking at you, Bethesda.
And if you have no clue about programming you may as well think of it that way too (This being the average joe)
Not everything open source is ya know, clean?
But what do you know?
I think you're to paranoid. Just wait till it releases on Nexusmods.
Modders dont generally open source theyr own stuff to begin with to prevent theft.
I dont think thats selfish. Why shouldnt they be allowed to do this?
You open source your mods, you get clones, and ripoffs. Thats not nice to any artist too.
Source? If you can provide that, then please do, but I think you're full talk here.
