If you stop-

-caring about meta you can actually enjoy the game.

What is so hard to get about that?

Why can't people wrap their heads around this tiny fact?

Well, for a number of reasons.

To begin with, the extreme range of strength seen in build and weapon selection can be limiting in a PvE context - from both directions. Some setups, such as daggers, are weak or broken to the point of ineffectiveness; it's hard to roleplay as or enjoy the playstyle of a nimble assassin when your weapons are so short that you physically cannot reach the model of certain enemies to hit them. On the other side, the extreme strength and resulting lack of interactivity from certain weapons, builds, and spells prevents players from using them and engaging in a fulfilling experience with the game's combat. Comet Azure is a beautiful and unique spell; it's a shame that there's not really a good way to use it without trivializing the encounter.

From a PvP perspective, the answer is more obvious. When gear disparities can confer an enormous advantage to one party, players are strongly incentivized to limit their builds and strategies to the meta, because to do otherwise entails fighting an uphill battle against those who do.

But there in lies the problem.
People care WAY too much about winning to have fun with the sheer amount of weapons and skills you can use. 90% of the people who read this probably fall into the "if I cant win then why bother" crowd

With things like PSGS and PS S in the current patch I agree, as it takes very little skill to play with those without any restrictions (spear tali, claw tali, poise stack, etc.)

But with those out of the way, with the current *softer* meta, such as PSSS, halstoc, shunter, fists, PSGS and PS S-(with restrictions) can be quite fun to play.

Some of the weapon options in the game are currently SO bad that, you don't learn much by playing them even, and they have very little depth, when playing off meta vs full meta it can be very frustrating, and I know there's an entire side that dislikes the idea of playing meta entirely.

Personally I find using meta and playing against meta with it to be quite fun, and it does require skill when evenly matched, the stuff BEING strong and tough to play with/against is what gives it depth, and is what makes it fun and more competitive for me.

Playing optimally is truly what I enjoy, and it makes it so I never think to myself (Oh well... if I was using something better *I* could of won that).

Though... I currently main HTS and that's barely meta since the nerf :[

I'm also not talking about challenge runs because that too defeats the purpose of the average person trying to have fun

I do but then again the character I am using has reached max level a while ago and I played pvp alongside the entire time. Just link in Ds3 the 351-max level is one giant bracket.

Let me guess,"twinking" or "non-twinking" My guess you chose the former

max level ;)
Back on Dark Souls 3 meta is where all the cheaters are at. It is an extreme rarity on Elden Ring to find a cheater while playing because of how the game and the server connections work. You will be kicked off of online mode if EAC is turned off while in game

Cheaters were almost exclusivly only at meta from 30+3 to 150+10 in their respective area's in game
