it took me until level 35 to realise...
that golden runes could be used for more runes, i was selling them at the vendor!

Anyone else as noob as me or that? :philosophizing:

technically, selling golden runes at a vendor is the same as using them.

Reccomend it if you have a huge surplus of golden runes
If you never played the other games it's understandable. But I think they sell for what they typically give you when you consume them anyway.

Tip for using golden runes by the way: always keep a decent stash around.

Then when you're halfway or 3/4 to the next level and about to fight a boss or do something dangerous, you can pop some runes and just spend them all leveling up so you don't need to worry about grabbing your runes each boss run.

When you sell them at the vendor you get same amount of runes as activating them. Makes no difference.

I often stop selling them at around RL30, and only keep their number below 99. It's a good thing to have some spare runes for leveling up, but if you want to slow leveling to keep the game more interesting, it's better not to use or sell them at all. Especially when you have 999 flowers that you need to sell already.

Never use golden runes until you have to... like when you reach a merchant but dont have enough runes to buy stuff.

Upgrading your weapon but ran out of runes? use golden runes. :er_wave:
Not enough runes to upgrade spirit? use golden runes. :er_wave:
Just shy of a level? use a golden rune. :er_wave:

Once upon a time, before the updates, selling them was the easiest way to use them.

To prevent people getting confused:

Golden runes provide the same amount when sold to vendor as when they are consumed. The point of selling them is to save time as opposed to consuming. The point of being able to consume them, is basically to remotely gain runes anywhere, any time, so you can safe deposit runes in case of death.

However, the amount of runes gained from other sources can be altered by Golden scarab and/or Gold-pickled fowl foot.

Think of those runes as "banking" for safe holding. They're runes you cannot lose on death that can help you cover a purchase/leveling gap as needed, or if you are simply leveling as much as possible as you go then blow them via selling as you have been.

I use the gold runes when I am a little short of an upgrade level to push me over the edge. I find that for the most part killing enemies will net you more than they do unless you start getting the higher level ones.

btw to use multiple types of runes (or consumables in general) without having to reopen the menu each time, press the right analog (R3) when you're in the inventory and the right half will disappear. while it's like this, using a consumable from the inventory won't close it.
you can hide the right half of the screen also in other menus, like the one for equips. it's handy so you can see what happen on screen while switching stuff.
