People who like Malenia as a character
Why? What do you appreciate in her? I really don't understand: she claims to be undefeated, while she almost lost to Radahan and then she nuked Caelid to cover herself and, basically, maintain her status. Moreover, when she kills you she just flexes how much she's strong or how you shall rot, but when you kill her she's all "oh, tarnished, I admit my loss" etc etc. Where is her charm?

maybe
but maybe also not
... sorry

this might be a bit pedantic but i want to point out that malenia only becomes a true god (aka succumbing to the outer god) after blooming three times, which hasnt happend yet

and something about malenias dialoge kinda suggest that miquella has been gone on purpose (yadayadayada "when will you return" etc pp) - so it could be that mohg is being played like a fiddle

a demigod being straight up reborn on the other hand is somewhat of a stretch, or at least unprecedented ... not impossible tho
I doubt miquella got kidnapped on purpose, Considering the very paradise he yearned to create is rotting away without him there.

Lore says he imbedded himself in the haligtree and went into hibernation. His power comes from his dreams so likely his slumbering was helping the haligtree grow. But then mohg hacked it open and ripped him out.
It's worth noting too that Miquella is literally inside an egg when we find him and mohg. This is likely what he was in when imbedded into the tree.

oh no doubt hes in that cocoon and all, but that doesnt mean he doesnt do anything

also, here is a quote from malenia

"I dreamt for so long.
My flesh was dull gold...and my blood, rotted.
Corpse after corpse, left in my wake...
As I awaited... his return.
... Heed my words.
I am Malenia. Blade of Miquella.
And I have never known defeat."

notice how she awaits for his (miquella) return?
would be kinda stupid of her to think he wandered off in his cocoon wouldnt it?
also notice how she mentions how her blood is rotted
her blood ...
now, who is mohg communing with?
its the formless mother -"the outer god of who bestows power upon accursed blood and craves wounds"

... she might know a thing or two about blood, maybe even rotted blood

kind of a stretch i know, but also kinda not tho

His body fully tanked the effects of rot and didn't succumb to it the same way her soldiers and herself did. Only his mind is fried, His body is still strong enough to hold up the very stars. He has enough sense in there not to eat his beloved horse.
If she had not opened a wound inside his body and launched her nuke at that exact moment, Radahn would of tanked the rot onslaught and killed her. Caelid still would of been F'ed, but radahn would not of lost his mind. He would of killed melenia and send a meteor shower crashing into the haligtree.

It's also worth noting that his mind might not be FULLY rotted away. Lore reads that he attacks friend and foe alike, yet every time we see him, He's only eating Melenia's soldiers, and he doesn't eat his horse. His horse also stays loyal and by his side.

It's very possible his brain is 60% rotted away but parts of him are still in there. Like someone who suffered a stroke and they can't control parts of themselves anymore.

On a side note, how the **** did his horse survive that nuke

The rot is eating away from the inside out - and there are plenty of soldiers within Caelid and even animals who have held up against the rot as well, that seems to be how it works. It eats at your inside and makes you lose control of yourself. And the narration is pretty clear, he's attacking friend or foe - he's a husk relying on instincts. "His wits are long gone. Now he gathers the corpses of friends or foes alike, gorging on them"
His soldiers were shielded from the rot thanks to their Fire usage.
The rot very well could be eating him from the INSIDE, but like I said if she hadn't pulled that kamikaze move, Radahn would of tanked the bloom and likely came out of it fine.

And the Tarnished fights Malenia after just waking up from a 100 year coma. Not sure what you're getting at. Clearly, wits don't have much to do with anything here.
Not really sure it was 100 years, And she hasn't been in a coma the whole time. We don't have a proper timetable for the game. Best we can use is Melina's age as a hint considering she's marika's daughter.
Could be 1000 years. You don't know. You also don't know she hasn't been in the coma the entire time.

...she fought the tarnished. She had her wits about her. Radahn, even the narration dedicated to him, implied he was but a husk.

Yes, s he fought another day - it just wasn't Radahn she fought, I mean at that point, why would she? Malenia's goal was not to get the Great Runes - that's not why she marched through Caelid.
The tarnished also fought Radahn. Neither side was in a good state. Just a reminder: the war between the demigods has been going on for hundreds, possibly thousands of years, with no significant progress made toward its end, by any side.

There's nothing I'm aware of that explicitly states why Malenia marched on Caelid. But, you know, being that it's a story about gaining control of the iron... i mean elden throne, I think it's safe to say that IS why she marched on Caelid.

I don't understand what is hard to understand about this...

Yes, Malenia needed time to recover....but she recovered. Radahn didn't recover his wits, he is progressively getting worse. When you face Malenia she is back on her feet and blooms again. When you fight Radahn, you're putting him out of his misery.

I won't dismiss the possibility that miquella made a secret pact with mohg and his blood goddess in the hopes of curing his sister, but it seems very unlikely considering miquella himself could keep her rot at bay with unannoyed gold.
She likely discarded the needle and gave in to the rot god's power in caelid when she realized she couldn't beat radahn in a straight fight, Which is likely how whats his face in radahn's army gets his hands on it.

There is a slight chance that when Melenia went into her coma, Miquella was somehow communicating with her through dreams. Maybe she entered his dreamworld in a hibernation of her own.

It's also possible that when she says waiting for his return that she has no idea where he went and she thinks he may come back. It's possible she thinks miquella is upset at her for giving in to her rot and left out of dissapointment, so she sits and waits hoping for him to return to her.

Millicent hints that she wasn't in the coma the entire time, And I doubt it was 1000 years, The haligtree would of rotted away in that amount of time.
Also I guess Miquella is a possible time reference as well? In all his statue's he's depicted as being a child, yet in his cuccoon he def doesn't look to be one anymore. I would say that maybe 20-25 years has passed, maybe less. The game world is very inconsistent with the timeframes.

Okay, irrelevant to the battle between her and Radahn.

Did Malenia recover enough to regain consciousness and her wits and did Radahn slowly degrade into a husk fighting on instinct or was the narrator at the castle just lying?

he could keep it at bay
he couldnt heal it tho, not yet at least, and its pretty clear he wants to be able to heal the rotting sickness

and when it comes to malenias actions in caelid
considering all i know about her character, hating rot and everything
maybe she actually didnt lose control after all
maybe this was a calculated action
radahn must be stopped to end the age of the golden order and prepare miquellas ascension
so she "took one for the team" so to speak

and again, malenia thinking her brother wandered off in his cocoon seems kinda silly to me

this is all highly speculative ofc

That's a good theory. I dig it.

Maybe Miquella realizes that what's happening to his sister is inevitable, that she will be completely consumed by the Outer God of Rot sooner or later.

So he figured the only way to beat an Outer God is with another Outer God. That's why he goes to (or bewitches) Mohg because he knows the latter worships the Formless Mother. Miquella sees this as an opportunity to become the vessel of the Mother instead.

So who knows - maybe we'll get the vessel of the Rot God, Malenia, vs the vessel of the Formless Mother, Miquella, some day

She is the embodyment of a badass in female form, despite all the damage to her body she still beautiful and with a posture of power and combat readiness, she is not just a monster but a duelist that fights by your terms (yes she reacts to how you play against her more as a duel not as a barbaric fight) then go all outbut still shows finesse and class despite all and only boss that taken a hell of time to be fully understood and completely beaten.

She nukes Caelid and Radahn sort of become a nuke-like himself so what (or wtf do you think a meteor would do to Caelid? And Radahn doing it just dont give a flying f**k about what happens at Caelid as far as he have his combat fun) while Malenia only used it as last resort, not like she was nuking everything everywhere also she avoided using it out of pride too, but yes she sort of killed Radahn motivation while destroying her body on the process but still able to fight, sort of a tie.

I'll watch the intro Radahn cutscene again, but I'm pretty sure the narrator says nothing about Malenia waking up. The narrator DOES say the battle ended in a stalemate. Again, dont know what your point is.

I'm meaning the narrator stating Radahn's wits are long gone. We know Malenia woke up unless she was sleep walking in the fight against the tarnished.

And Ranni mentioned there not being a victor - but again, her narration is about becoming Elden Lord. Her motivation is not the same as Malenia's. Malenia does not seem to care about the great runes - example of this was that she fought Godrick over an insult and pride, once he groveled at her feet, she left him there in shame with great rune intact. Her motivation for fighting Radahn is unknown - what we do know is the outcome: Malenia lived another day to fight with her wits while Radahn became zombie boi on a pony.
