Malenia sucks because even though she is a total bad A that fought this other total bad A, Radahn, who is slightly more bad A than her or whatever she is invalid as a bad A despite being able to rofl stomp as a pretty much second best supreme bad A or somethin somethin of the sort.
Did I get that fail train logic right? Alright then.
Strong charismatic fighter confident in their ability and can actually back it up. When did that become not enough exactly?
It's strongly implied that Millicent was born from Malenia's first bloom. And while Millicent is indeed an amnesiac when we first meet her, she starts to remember who she and Malenia were after you give her the needle.
Millicent is a clone of Malenia and some sort of living personification of Malenia's former sense of self. In truth, there is no other better, single source of truth regarding Malenia than Millicent (well, other than Malenia herself, of course).
Although to answer the question directly, there is much to be said for her dedication to Miquella and her battle with the Rot within herself, but her unleashing it during Radahn's battle essentially undoes all of her work just to save her pride.
-strong
-smart
-loves animals
-shows mercy to his defeated enemies
-had more maidens than you probably
Fromsoft making maidenless people foam at the mouth over a fictional character.
No, his festivals are called the Radahn Festivals where the entire point is to gather warriors to get together and kill him, therefore granting him mercy.
For me, personally, when I say i like "Malenia" it's more the lore aspect - I'm interested in getting to know her and Miquella more and theorizing about them. But yeah, aesthetically, her transition into a goddess is pretty damn cool. It's just a really visually pleasing fight. But I also like Radahn and though his boss fight had some of Fromsoftware's best humor - Paches noping out, Radahn riding around on his little pony, turning into a freakin' meteor and yeeting your little raid. But I don't really find his lore AS interesting as Malenia's.
In Elden Ring? My dude, that's EVERY female character in games. It's what happens when a medium is dominated by one gender, especially this subgenre.
She doesn't sit there though. When we go to fight her, she is woken up by the Tarnished. After she went full nuke, she passed out I guess. If you get the Spirit Summon "Cleanrot Knight Fiinlay" it says:
"Legendary ashen remains. Use to summon the spirit of the Cleanrot Knight Finlay.
Finlay was one of the few survivors of the Battle of Aeonia, who in an unimaginable act of heroism carried the slumbering demigod Malenia all the way back to the Haligtree. She managed the feat alone, fending off all manner of foes along the way."
