People who like Malenia as a character
Why? What do you appreciate in her? I really don't understand: she claims to be undefeated, while she almost lost to Radahan and then she nuked Caelid to cover herself and, basically, maintain her status. Moreover, when she kills you she just flexes how much she's strong or how you shall rot, but when you kill her she's all "oh, tarnished, I admit my loss" etc etc. Where is her charm?

Just briefly reading some of the posts in this thread and the core argument I'm seeing that is going over so many heads is...

Malenia sucks because even though she is a total bad A that fought this other total bad A, Radahn, who is slightly more bad A than her or whatever she is invalid as a bad A despite being able to rofl stomp as a pretty much second best supreme bad A or somethin somethin of the sort.

Did I get that fail train logic right? Alright then.

Strong charismatic fighter confident in their ability and can actually back it up. When did that become not enough exactly?

Millicent, the amnesiac supernatural entity born out of literal Rot who has spent Marika knows how long addled by pain while guarded and worshipped by the pests, is neither unbiased nor reliable as a narrator. I'm also not inclined to view a single, rather vague line by Millicent as trustworthy even from a meta sense.
That would be a grave mistake on your end!

It's strongly implied that Millicent was born from Malenia's first bloom. And while Millicent is indeed an amnesiac when we first meet her, she starts to remember who she and Malenia were after you give her the needle.

Millicent is a clone of Malenia and some sort of living personification of Malenia's former sense of self. In truth, there is no other better, single source of truth regarding Malenia than Millicent (well, other than Malenia herself, of course).

His cardinal sin was making Melenia bow to him the same way godrick bowed to her.
Now she rots away forgotten in her little tree, while Radahn still has festivals held in his honor
You don't got a leg to stand on.

Just like Radahn.
Who needs legs when you can levitate

Tell that to poor Leonard...

The average male gamer is so touch-starved that if a woman is naked, even if she is literally half a rotting corpse, they will still turn into rabid barbaric animals. Men who simp for Malenia are the same men in ancient Egypt who would be banned from seeing the corpses of their recently deceased female relatives until they started to rot, although even that won't stop most of these sick bastards.

Although to answer the question directly, there is much to be said for her dedication to Miquella and her battle with the Rot within herself, but her unleashing it during Radahn's battle essentially undoes all of her work just to save her pride.

-loves animals
-shows mercy to his defeated enemies

I like Radahn a bit more than Malenia, myself, but doesn't he slaughter his enemies? What mercy? His festivals are those of slaughter.

That's the greatest mercy of them all. To be released from our corporeal shackles and flesh so we can transcend to the final reward, the Chuck E Cheese playground and arcade.

Don't know where you got that from. Do you have evidence for that?

No, his festivals are called the Radahn Festivals where the entire point is to gather warriors to get together and kill him, therefore granting him mercy.

What is with the automatic assumption that people online like Malenia because it's a female character? I guess i could make the assumption that most here got their gamer egos hurt by getting smashed by her a million times before finally beating her....with cheese tactics and summons. I mean, there would be no grounds for that assumption, but I guess that is the standard.

For me, personally, when I say i like "Malenia" it's more the lore aspect - I'm interested in getting to know her and Miquella more and theorizing about them. But yeah, aesthetically, her transition into a goddess is pretty damn cool. It's just a really visually pleasing fight. But I also like Radahn and though his boss fight had some of Fromsoftware's best humor - Paches noping out, Radahn riding around on his little pony, turning into a freakin' meteor and yeeting your little raid. But I don't really find his lore AS interesting as Malenia's.

In Elden Ring? My dude, that's EVERY female character in games. It's what happens when a medium is dominated by one gender, especially this subgenre.

She's a coward - straight up.

She nukes a quarter of the Lands Between because she was beaten to her knees by the Starscourge, as shown in the opening cinematic. In that cinematic, we also see Radahn giving her a chance to surrender as he stands over her with his arms crossed. It's only when she re-attaches her arm and gets ready for another round that Radahn draws his swords. By "blooming and dooming" Radahn, she also abandons her pride to "meet Radahn's measure," as Millicent herself confirms.

Then she just sits in a chair by Miquella's Hailgtree like a complete bum instead of getting off her ass and investigating where the hell he went. I know she's in pain because of the Rot, but literally just strike things with your sword to regain health, lady. You already surrendered your pride anyway.

And then she has the nerve to say that she "finally met [her] match" after you beat her when in reality you are not her match, but her superior. How do we know this? Well, because you defeat her. Hell, Radahn does too (the only difference being that you finish the job).

She doesn't sit there though. When we go to fight her, she is woken up by the Tarnished. After she went full nuke, she passed out I guess. If you get the Spirit Summon "Cleanrot Knight Fiinlay" it says:

"Legendary ashen remains. Use to summon the spirit of the Cleanrot Knight Finlay.

Finlay was one of the few survivors of the Battle of Aeonia, who in an unimaginable act of heroism carried the slumbering demigod Malenia all the way back to the Haligtree. She managed the feat alone, fending off all manner of foes along the way."
