Also, we need a "Everything possible before Margit" video.
You should explore the whole Limgrave and the area to the south ( Weeping Penisula), before you continue to the Castle Stormveil.
You can find lot of useful stuff in Limgrave, weapons, merchants, cookbooks, crafting recipes, Ashes of War, upgrade mats, NPC quests, and so on.
Find the AoW "Golden Vow" and use it on a dagger. Cast it before you enter a boss fight, that will increase your damage.
Get also some consumables to buff your weapon, Blood Grease is a good one for your Bloodhound Fang.
Its near the very beginning of limgrave just down by the beach.
He also sells the Club which is a good starting Strike(Blunt) weapon to damage/shatter "Hardened" enemies when 2 handed.(You'll regret not having a Strike weapon as some bosses take up to 90% less damage from non Strike damage)
Although you might want to give the Broadsword a better ash of war as its base weapon art is rather terrible.
For Shields you can find a heater shield in the Stormhill enemy camp or somewhere near the Minor Erdtree in the Weeping Peninsula, you can also farm brass shields from the soldiers that carry them (again the Gatefront ruins is a good place to find a bunch of them).
In general, you'll find weapons galore by exploring Limgrave and the Weeping Peninsula to the south. Exploring the Weeping Peninsula can get you a bunch of improvements to your flasks as well, you're probably even gonna need a bunch of extra vigor just to keep up with the upgrades.
