Also, I should note that I did indeed complete Yura's questline organically on my first playthrough. As someone who has played Demon's Souls and Dark Souls, I know that FromSoft's level and area designers like to hide things around corners just out of sight. As such, I found Yura in Limgrave and Liurnia quite easily. When I first entered the Altus Plateau, I sought out the nearest map fragments and began exploring the ruins that it depicted; of particular interest were the ones that look like churches. I found Yura and Eleonora at one there.
I beat Mohg on my first try, not because I used the Purifying Crystal Tear, but just by healing through his "Nihils". He nearly killed me until I realized that he was making me insta-bleed. I probably would have had the Tear in my Mixed Physik beforehand, but I never read its description until sometime much, much later.
But I apparently didn't stick around for long enough for Eleonora to spawn.
So the boss dropping this quest item isn't just utterly unrelated lore-wise, it is also apparently easily missable EVEN if you go to the location she's supposed to spawn. Fog gates are hard to miss, overworld spawn triggers are not.
That's the main issue is that if you didn't randomly find Yura to continue his quest the church just seems like an unremarkable minor loot spot and nothing more much like 90% of the map.
Also by the time you reach the mountaintops you have no reason to return to the church either.
I spoilered where to find the tear after having Mohg dickslap me repeatedly, only to be extremely annoyed that I'd explored that region and still hadn't found the tear.
Exactly
On his charged up bloodclaw attack, there's one spear swing and time for pokes.
Any time he does the downward stab there's time for pokes.
It's much the same for his second phase. If you stay close the blood chucking doesn't bother you much.
I can confirm bleed works quite well on him. I finished bum rushing him with a level 60 or so toon using nothing but an unleveled reduvia.
So it ends the fight fast... In either direction.
