Am I missing something with Mohg?
I've tired everything. It seems like he can attack ad infinitum without giving the player any kind of break. Any time I try to back up to heal he follows up with MORE ATTACKS. Every attack is delayed for so long I feel like I'm waiting for the earth to end just to dodge the attack. Does anyone have any tips? Because this fight has me thinking about quitting this game. It's not "Hard but fair" it's just "So annoying that it's hard" DS3 was tough but I never got to this point of frustration.

I appreciate the offer for help! But I really want to beat everything solo. It's just what I prefer.
Fair enough. Good luck

Along with the physick tear, there is ...

Actually, here is a suggestion: why not give the teardrop to the other Mohg boss, or hide it somewhere in his general vicinity? You can easily miss one or both of these in a blind playthrough, but it would fit FAR better thematically than having the invader girl drop it.
The Purifying Crystal Tear isn't even necessary to beat Mohg. It's basically just a questline reward that makes the fight a little easier.

Also, I should note that I did indeed complete Yura's questline organically on my first playthrough. As someone who has played Demon's Souls and Dark Souls, I know that FromSoft's level and area designers like to hide things around corners just out of sight. As such, I found Yura in Limgrave and Liurnia quite easily. When I first entered the Altus Plateau, I sought out the nearest map fragments and began exploring the ruins that it depicted; of particular interest were the ones that look like churches. I found Yura and Eleonora at one there.

I beat Mohg on my first try, not because I used the Purifying Crystal Tear, but just by healing through his "Nihils". He nearly killed me until I realized that he was making me insta-bleed. I probably would have had the Tear in my Mixed Physik beforehand, but I never read its description until sometime much, much later.

I visited the church too many hours before finding Mohg.

But I apparently didn't stick around for long enough for Eleonora to spawn.

So the boss dropping this quest item isn't just utterly unrelated lore-wise, it is also apparently easily missable EVEN if you go to the location she's supposed to spawn. Fog gates are hard to miss, overworld spawn triggers are not.

Eleonora just DOESN'T spawn unless you complete Yura's quest line or fail it by reaching the mountaintops of the giants.

That's the main issue is that if you didn't randomly find Yura to continue his quest the church just seems like an unremarkable minor loot spot and nothing more much like 90% of the map.

Also by the time you reach the mountaintops you have no reason to return to the church either.
I didn't do the Yura quest line. I played through the game first time before character markers were added to the game, so I don't think I found Yura again after having him help me kill the Reduvia-wielding invader early in the game. Oh, and when he was possessed by Shabiri, of course, but I assume his quest is automatically failed by then.

I spoilered where to find the tear after having Mohg dickslap me repeatedly, only to be extremely annoyed that I'd explored that region and still hadn't found the tear.

Going through his Nihil phase without the tear is nowhere near as bad as trying to do Manus without the pendant on a medium or God forbid fat roll. This is nothing new.

Just summon Mimic Tear and spam Blasphemous Blade weapon art. It will carry you through 99% of encounters. Blasphemous Blade is broken af but so are a lot of the bosses with their non-stop combos and input reading, so no remorse.

I also think that there are many setups with bleed, that you can play, which have about the same impact on him, as long as you can apply it fast. He is very weak to it.
Which is ironic, considering he is the lord of blood.

Exactly

He attacks 3-4 times with his spear if you stay in range. Plenty of time for spare pokes in the meantime.
On his charged up bloodclaw attack, there's one spear swing and time for pokes.
Any time he does the downward stab there's time for pokes.

It's much the same for his second phase. If you stay close the blood chucking doesn't bother you much.

I can confirm bleed works quite well on him. I finished bum rushing him with a level 60 or so toon using nothing but an unleveled reduvia.

Bleed is actually a trade off vs mohg as he gets a large damage buff from either bleeding the player or being bleed himself.

So it ends the fight fast... In either direction.
