do npc respawn?

I was at Fort Gael (non-dungeon), and I killed the Redmayne Knight trying to get his bow. I wander around the instance killing other stuff and then come back later without site of grace reset and the guy was back up? Is there a time limit for him to respawn without a reset of the instance?

I am sure I never reloaded or reset because my Flask of Wonderous Physick is depleted from the previous battle.

None unique enemies will reappear if you change zone or use a site of grace. But the world of elden ring also has day/night cycle and when it switches from *late night* to *morning* all enemies that are not near you will respawn automaticly.

And the cycle seems to last only 20-25 minutes, so its quite possible that time shifted and the knight reappeared because of that:)

Personally i would have preferd a longer cycle or one i can set to my preferance(like I can do in skyrim for example). I mean a whole day passing in 30 minutes is ridiculously fast:)

Normal hostile npcs do respawn. Bosses and unique nocs such as merchants and quest npcs do not….. despite “death being sealed” by Maliketh….
