Random freezes, need help (FIXED)
NOT FIXED: Issue came back next day after a reboot. I'm out of ideas.

FIXED: After unplugging all my USB devices except keyboard, mouse and controller, the issue seems to have gone away (at least for now) I had a USB HDD device (with no drive) and a Cyborg controller plugged in.

Game randomly freezes that last half second or so, making it really hard to play, and nearly impossible to beat any boss as it freezes randomly in EVERY boss fight I've tried.

Playing on PC with RTX3080, CPU is a Intel I7 8700k, installed on an SSD
Things I've tried:
- Reduced graphics settings
- Changing shader cache to unlimited
- Uninstalled Xbox App
- In NVidia Control panel, turned off trilinear filtering for Elden Ring, also tried changing VSync settings
- Plugged controller (using PS4 controller) into a different USB slot.
None of these things have helped.

If I disconnect my controller and play with mouse and keyboard, I don't get the random freezes anywhere near as much (saw 2 freezes in an hour, vs freezes every few minutes with controller), but the keyboard/mouse controls are so atrocious I really don't want to play with keyboard.

Also with task manager up, my CPU use is around 40% and doesn't fluctuate when the freezes happen, GPU use isn't maxed out either.

Examples of the freezing

i got rid of it by limiting my FPS to 30 in AMD software. Before that it stuttered even at lowest possible resolution and low preset.

Looks like RAM on a first glance.
Can you please tell what you get if you CTR + ALT + DEL -> task manager -> performance -> memory and check RAM speed and slots used?

I'll try a few of these things after work.

I have 32GB DDR4 2400mhz Ram. Slots used 2/4

The exact ram chips I'm using are:
Corsair CMK32GX4M2A2400C16 Vengeance LPX 32GB (2x16GB) DDR4 2400 (PC4-19200)

Elden Ring is the only game I play that has this freezing issue, and again, ONLY seems to happen when controller is plugged in.

UGHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH

Your issue is completely unrelated to the OP's issue. Probably best to make your own thread.

Most likely the USB HDD.

ER, DS3, and Sekiro have a bug that polls ALL devices connected to a Windows PC, and not just KB/M and game controllers. HDDs and some networked devices go into sleep mode after a period of inactivity. This input polling bug wakes them up unnecessarily to check for input and this results in a stutter each time it happens.

This started happening to me yesterday for the first time. It must have happened 20 times, mostly during intense battles. I moved the Xbox USB dongle so that it has better line of sight to my gamepad and it hasn't happened again since. Not sure if that's the solution or just a coincidence but so far so good.

The freezes started back up. Have no idea why, I kept everything else unplugged. It's not as bad as it was, but still gets me killed quite often.
