I keep hearing about how Nioh does some things better than the original Souls games, I'm tempted to try it out myself one day.

Of the ones I've played, I haven't had a high opinion of them except for Hollow Knight. Hollow Knight is a really top tier metroidvania and the influences it took from Bloodborne and Dark Souls was really well done. I also find the story to be really engaging and the first game since Dark Souls that did the cryptic storytelling well.

I'll stretch it a bit and put Hyper Light Drifter on the list. The atmosphere and storytelling style reminds me a lot of Dark Souls and Hollow Knight.

It hardly has as many games in the genre than other genres though. The problem is, most of them suck.

There are obvious QOL improvements in the remake, but the OG has better atmosphere.
