(SOLVED) HELP! Elden Ring will not launch. Windows 11, dx12, 2023
I have previously played the game last year no issues, have over 200 hours in-game. Can run on high settings just fine and smoothly. Reinstalled the other day hoping to play with the new updates and it will not launch. I click "play" and after a few seconds the games stops running. No loading screens, no anti cheat popping up. Nothing.

I will list everything iv done previously to try and fix this myself.

- updated graphics drivers
- verified game files x4
- turned off steam overlay
- "run as administrator" and "disable fullscreen optimisations" for the elden ring exe and anti-cheat
- reinstalled the game x2
- uninstalled epic games launcher
- checked for any dx12 issues (none)
- reinstalled windows 11

f**k man...idk.

Most of the troubleshooting threads iv read are from early last year so if ANYONE has a solution for this issue now, at this point I will s**k y**'*e d**k.

So the easy fix in this case is to create a new Administrator profile and transfer the personal data from the faulty profile by hand and work with the new profile from this point on.

So strange. Try deleting the config files. Location incoming.

C:\Users\[username]\AppData\Roaming\EldenRing

If the Appdata folder doesn't show just put %Appdata% into your search bar and it will take you there

In the Eldenring folder, there's 1 file and 1 folder.
Folder is "76561198107610124" and has;
"steam_autocloud.vdf"
"ER0000.sl2"
"ER0000.sl2.bak"

The other is a web file?
"GraphicsConfig"

Do I delete both/all?

Deleted it. Tried running the game just now, It didn't do anything. Same issue as before.

Still no change. Missing files were reacquired and it didn't fix the issue.

Okay well my last suggestions are to 1. Make sure the game is running on the dedicated gpu in Nvidia or amd control panel and if that doesn't work then 2. copy the name of the anticheat exe, think it's startprotectedgame or something and change the name of the elden ring exe to that and either delete or change the name of the anticheat to something else though this will disable online play unfortunately.

Otherwise I don't rightly know, sorry.

Interesting. I changed the name of eldenring.exe to that, deleted startprotectedgame and that WORKED! It loaded the game instantly.

I won't mark this thread as solved though. The issue looks to be connected to the anti-cheat. I can't even reinstall or uninstall it to test the theory as those files seem broken and don't work properly.

For now at least it seems i can play the game offline, but that doesn't solve the main issue for me being that I can't play online.

Let us check the eventvwr what is causing your problem.

I bet it is a error of start_protected_game.exe with kernelbase.dll.

I need some more information.

Is this windows 11 a preinstalled one or a upgrade from Windows 10 ?
