PVP sucks and I wish it was better.
Pvp in most games would be considered something that usually keeps games alive due to the competitive nature and or overall fun you can have in them...elden ring doesn't seem to hit home on any of those marks at all.

As a former dark souls vet going from 1 all the way up to now, not only have I lived through different horrific eras of the series strange picks in meta usage but I've been able to best them on numerous occasions. My overall issue with this game how ever is that even if everything the games had prior that were considered ''overpowered'' were able to be beaten with skill more often then not but in elden ring there is a massive increase in safe to use moves and or just get outta jail free ones (bhs) trying to have any fun in the game can go well for you till you run into a literal mountain that has 100+ poise with fingerprint shield with whatever bs weapon you can think of with some status affect that procs as soon as he hits you once.

At this point I'm sure I'm unable to actually count the amount of times I've had people run away from me during any pvp instance. It's comical how often people tend to do that and I usually just have to sit there and wait for them to make an actual move cause it's eating so much of the time up when I could've been fighting anyone else. It's boring, repetitive, skilless and overall just broken.

An instance of it being broken would have to be the arcane stat, now by itself its not too bad but when you start understanding it's actual function and how annoying you can actually be then it starts becoming something you dread to fight and pairing that up with status affects like bleed or poison (which actually is effective imo) gives you something that is very oppressive or extremely passive in use usually depends from person to person.

An example of aggressive use would be when I loaded into a match and the person in question had bullgoats armor and varre's mask with fingerprint shield and some random rapier with bleed on it and what he would do is just run at me and try to poke me behind the shield and you may be asking "why didn't you just bait the attack out and parry it" well I did numerous times but once he saw that I could do that he switched to plan B and used a funny little incant that set him on fire and bled me out if i was anywhere near him.

Thinking of it now I could've used bhs to escape that situation but when you're losing a vast majority of your health before you can process what's happening it's hard to even hot swap to it when it was never in the bar to begin with, mind you...he was doing all of this with the fingerprint shield and basically maxed out poise.

It's just not very fun and I honestly hate the fact that weapons that would be honestly very fun to use are over shadowed and basically impossible to use in contrast to the more meta based weapons and or ashes of war.

Another petty thing to add here is the lack of actual fashion and its really sad cause I honestly wouldn't be as upset if people had a actual good fit on while kicking my ass, but it's like people only will prioritize a win way over trying to have fun or look semi cool or plain out silly.

The pvp state of the game is literally just sad, the rest of the game is perfectly fine. If they decide to maybe balance some more things out and hopefully resolve some other lingering issues I may have with the game then hopefully I'll be able to find some actual fun in playing pvp but for now im pretty dead set on my idea that pvp is dead and a shell of its former glory days like ds1,2 and 3 respectively.

I agree. I mean I still manage to have fun, cuz souls combat is fun...but ER does so many things wrong sadly...in Dark souls 1-2-3 bleed had a time limit, you could not make ppl explode with 1 or 2 running attack.

Basically all the meta right now, double naginatas or great spears and alike could be made viable if they reduced the damage of dual wielding by 20-25% so that you can actually trade with them.

Knowing that you could trade with them, ppl would have to have an actual strategy rather than just do running or crouch attacks.

Oh and ofc...BHS is just such trash to fight against even now.

1. Please avoid walls of text.
2. Unless you have played on the console, your playtime doesn't say vet.
3. Pvp is much more balanced now than it was right after release. Bloodhound step and light roll are still busted though, but there are chances it will be fixed with the upcoming patch.
4. Shield poking is nerfed enough not to present any issues, as is turtling.
5. Literally every prior souls game had multiplayer issues, from ds1 being backstab fest to ds2 soul memory to ds3 weaponry boiling down to pkcs and murky and being forever tainted with glitches.

Yeah it's honestly really sad cause I've had to resort to just spamming running R1's from people running away consistently and had to deal with awful trades with people usually blowing me up with 1 or 2 hits. I almost feel like with what they added into the game it's not very possible for them to fix much without breaking more and or destroying what fun the pve community is having. Maybe some possible scaling that differs from pve help like how in destiny 2's pvp and how weapon dmg scaling works there.

I think your post can be rendered down to "the advantages others have by playing meta-focused builds always seem to outperform my non-meta-focused build" - and to comment on a lack of fashion, that would be due to every metallic texture being just different enough to not blend with other metallic textures on armor. It sucks because mismatched armor stands out big-time. This was far less of a problem in DS1-3.

Well the main point of the post was to at least show and or explain the issue with the lack of general skill it would take to do a lot with the current state of pvp even in a meta v meta environment. It's just more or less in a sad state in comparison to the former games while brandishing some new paint per say.

It makes a world of difference, thanks for doing that. It's kinda why I wrote so little in response

Depends on the status effect usually. Things like scarlet rot, poison you can take off using the respective bloom but for madness, bleed and maybe frostbite no.

That's honestly fair, had to do a double take for most of it cause I did write it in a hurry somewhat.

You're a good person with good intentions, don't let anyone convince you otherwise. :praisesun:

You know, previously, I'd say improving pvp might come with the compensation of ressources for the single player experience, but it's different with Elden Ring. Elden Ring sold so much, that it'll be the most long time patched game by Fromsoft, and I hope PVP will become something a bigger audience will enjoy in the long run.

I do hope though, it'll never be a big focus for future games, but the work on Elden Ring will make all pvp implementations in their future games better duo to the technology they've developed and the experience.
