Why do people even like this game?
Genuine Question here because the game really doesn't make sense and is tedious to play. Starting the campaign and it shows me a cutscene which has a bunch of random names and ominous music which I can't understand.

Then I die in a big fight, some woman on a horse saves me and when I enter the map, there is this giant knight on a horse who one-shots me. I tried taking him down for over 2 hours and I still got one-shotted. Then I go into some cave and again try to finish a boss called Patches who wrecks me in 2-3 moves.

Coming from games like God of War, RDR2, Horizon Zero Dawn etc, this game is very boring and seems designed around those who love button mashing or playing games with extremely high difficultly.

Here we go again....

You just played 10 hours, have 0 achievements so lets just say you only completed the tutorial level. Congratulations! Now your Elden Ring adventure beggins and in 90 hours more you will be able to come here with an opinion made by your real in-game experience.

Patches.....a boss?

It sounds like you're new to the soul series. Those games you listed, hold your hand. While this game doesn't hold your hand. You have to learn how to play on your own or ask for help. I had fun and enjoyed it because it's challenging. If it were super easy- i would just stop playing. Never to return to it. If having such a hard time to the point of making this type of thread... ask for help. You can summon players to help you.

You almost had me, right up until "Then I go into some cave and again try to finish a boss called Patches who wrecks me in 2-3 moves."

LOL

Quite a lot of baiting material here.
In case your question is really genuine, you have to learn the combat, go exploring and try to find guidance, where to go. Spoiler: your goal is to become Elden Lord :steamhappy:

You seem to prefer highly-scripted, set-piece based games.

Sony fans try to play a game that doesn't backseat you and that doesn't give you free wins the entire way through challenge(impossible)

Yeah I watched YT tutorials on how to beat him and I did eventually manage to beat him but every enemy I encounter is extremely tough. Where are the fodder enemies I can practice on?

Are there no enemies in the beginning levle which are easy? Even the footsoldiers need a lot of careful planning to defeat

Does this game also have a campaign? Its mentioning random names and it all sounds like gibberish to me.

If you thought God of War had even semi difficult combat, you're in for a learning curve lol.

These games are some of the most fun i ever had, super glad i finally got elden ring for pc. If you take the time (timing is everything in this game) you will find one of the most satisfying combat systems in gaming.

The phrase "git gud or die tryin" is probably the best way to describe these games. Once you learn the distance of attacks, timing of animations, atc you'll be a master.

And if you can master the timing of it all, from the beginning, you're already half way to being a master

That's the point pretty much. Learn how they move and behave, and they become trivial.
Unless you are really stupid and aggro a whole bunch of them, in that case it's run away or (probably) die.

Imagine having no clue about Lord of the Rings and watching the first movie for the first time.
A lot of things that you have no reference for is dropped on you in the intro, and no one explains why and how things are the way they are.
Why is that grey goblin hogging the ring. Why are dwarves so stupid. How is Sauron. Or what, even. Or why.

Well, it's a bit more streamlined in LotR, but you get my point I hope.
It's intentional, is the point. you get some framework dropped on you and you figure it out as you go.

This is where you learn not to force your way past something you have no clue about, or skill enough, or aren't powerful enough to fight yet.
Find another way.

The Tree Sentinel is intended to chase you into the dilapidated church behind it from the first site of grace. There you meet a merchant who sells some key items and gives some hints on what to do in the area. Go east from the church for the beginner encounters.
