I hope the DLC improves item drop rates
It feels quite bad to start a new character with a build intent and the weapon you need can only be farmed from enemies much later in the game, despite their weapon not possessing any significant advantages over the earliest gear you can get or even start with

It would be nice if they added a talisman which more directly improved item drop rates.

It's not very effective imo

Eh arcane is rather bad for item discovery as only gives a 1% drop rate per level.

That means that even at level 99 arcane(Bonus 99%) the chances a 1% drop item will drop becomes 1.99%.

For contrast the silver-pickled fowl foot gives 50% and the talismon gives 75%.

Edit: There really should be early game gear that boosts drop chance even if its only by a small amount like in DS2 with the traveling merchant's hat(25%) and prisoner's taters (15%).

Also watchdragon's parma was given its 50% item discovery in later updates in DS2 so its possible for bad armor/shields to be given item discovery in Elden ring.

Agreed my hope is they increase drop rates all around or make a special vendor that sells this stuff. Or add some of it to the vendors already there like for example a sycthe at the start. Or maybe expand the crafting system in general with the right mats and materials you can make some things

From the Wiki -- To calculate how the droprate improves with a given item discovery, first simply multiply the weight by the item discovery: 2.74 * 20 = 54.8. So the new weight of the item is now 54, meaning there are more numbers that can result in a drop. Lastly, the total weight is increased by the same amount. Weight increased by 54 - 20 = 34, so the new chance of dropping is 54 / 1034 = 0.0522 (5.22%).

Your explanation was cool but wrong. Have a very poggers day.

And that is the crux of this post really. The improvements you can make to drop rate are not very significant.

I mean FromSoft has never tinkered with drop rates or any base game mechanics really when they release an update. I would just embrace the grind of farming drops or settle with the easier to get items.

Items are rare for a reason

You're appealing to the history of souls games having similar mechanics. I didn't like them there, so why would that justify them here?

I'd rather grind in a loot-based game, like Nioh or Diablo. This isn't fun to grind on. The previous games were slightly more fun to grind, but nonetheless the drop rates in this game are far worse due to the numerity of enemies

I'm just saying that having rare drops makes second and third playthroughs more exciting when you find an item you didn't know you could get

For me it made it feel like I missed a significant number of opportunities for my PvP endeavors - I don't do NG+ runs, I'm a PvP god.

A god that fears mods on a forum, lol.
