ER on linux
So, I installed Elden Ring on Linux and the performance, let's say, could be better...
I am using KDE overlay, has anyone else any experience with elden ring on linux or tips to improve performance in any way. Proton exp and mesa 22 already installed.
My specs are
AMD Fx8350+
ATI Rx580
16 gb ddr3
SSD Drive

Games run comparable good on linux. Some need a bit of configuration, though

In case of ER, it almost seems, that it runs better, because the shader are compiled beforehand with Proton, which prevents stuttering.
so I can just delete system32, install linux and play games? Or there's some stuff to set up first other than nvidia drivers?

linux is not as easy as windows in running games, there is much more troubleshooting and some experience in linux needed.

If you want to try it, you can install a distro like Manjaro or similar gaming oriented distro side-by-side. You just need some space on your HD. The system itself is not that big. But the games are huge, if you have to install them twice.
But, it's not as straight-forward as windows and you might get stuck here and there. But even windows is not for everyone.

I really like XFCE Desktop, because you can also disable the compositor. Maybe true Fullscreen instead of Borderless Window could also help? Don't know.
the limitation of the 5800x is the pci-express lanes if you use a GPU and 1 m.2 SSD you have reached the maximum of available direct CPU lanes that interfer in some way with the RAM access, every additional PCI-express device will cause additional FPS drops.

the actual hardware generation is techically garbadge they sell to us.
Didn't know that. Fortunately, I only have 1 GPU and 1 m2.SSD. The other ssds are Sata

Do adults really use decade old cpu’s expecting to run new releases “just fine”? The min required cpu is roughly 30% better than your fx, a cpu that was, frankly, never made to be gamed with

Where did I say anything about just fine? I just said that I KNOW that I can increase performance somehow because the KDE can be quite resource-hungry. THAT is the only thing I was asking, I never said I expect 60fps+ on full settings or anything. I just knew that with this hardware I can make it well playable, and turns out it does work after all.
Please stop reading something into posts that clearly aren't there and stay on topic. I asked if someone knows about linux stuff, not ranting about my old hardware. :)

True fullscreen is already enabled. I might try XFCE Desktop though, before I will try running it on xmonad, have had other games that ran far better there, though this is a bit too technical for me to use full time. I also get confused with how the windows work I always end up starting elden ring on the wrong screen, and if it is on the correct one, the mouse just isn't there. ^^

Thank you for your advice, but again, not what I asked for.
Besides, if I chose to upgrade at some time in the future I just buy a new mainboard, ram and cpu and will still be off cheaper than buying a console which only lasts for 3 years before it breaks. Never owned a console in my life and I won't change that. ;)

Tbf, a PS5, even with reseller surcharge, costs as much as middle class graphic card, these days.

Yeah, I wouldn't buy a gpu right now anyway, prices are ridiculous.
Mine is ok for the next few years anyway, I think.
Even with this setup I am already 11 hrs in and it runs okay, mostly in the 40fps region, very rarely drops below 30 while sprinting through the world. Fps in bossfights were pretty stable so far. Not perfect, but not bad for a museum tier cpu. ;)

THX! Already have gamemode running, but I'll see if I find some good commands in the 2nd link. :)

Ah, I am PCMR, I like classic rock and fart dust. I would still use a flip phone if I could. No Steam Dreck for me.
