2. Elden Ring
3. Everything else
idk if we'll get dark souls 4 so soon, since ds3 was pretty much the ending of that story.
I mean look at how negative people's reactions to DS2 being an indirect continuation of the first game's story were.
Then think about how much worse it would be for spin offs.
Bloodborne
Sekiro
Demon's Souls (2009)
Elden Ring - pve good pvp trash
Dark Souls 2 - i hate shrine of amana
Demon's Souls (2020) - worse ost than original
Dark Souls 1 - great first playthru
I love all of them but you asked for ranking
Dark Souls
Bloodborne
Demons' Souls
Dark Souls II
Sekiro
Elden Ring
Dark Souls III
My first game was Demons' Souls. I beat the game a little before Dark Souls came out. When I beat Dark Souls, went back to Demons' before Dark Souls II came out, game was super easy after playing Dark Souls, but still so good. Dark Souls II felt very different but was still very good, even if it had MAJOR flaws. Then, there was Bloodborne.. which was the first "next gen" game and was absolutely incredible. Then, Dark Souls III came out, which was pretty good at first sight, but ended up being a chore and a mashup of the first one... not so good (overall boring game). Sekiro was a very good first play through, but not much after that. Elden Ring combines ALL those games but for me is a chore because it's too long and I couldn't care less for open world stuff.
Dark Souls II, Sekiro and Elden Ring could be placed at an equal level to be honest. But I just dislike Dark Souls III.
Dark Souls is the best game. The world just feels so good.
I am serious and its not an uncommon opinion.
There's not much Fromsoft can do with the dark souls franchise that WOULDN'T piss of the fanbase in some way.
I remember reading an interview that said roughly:
DS2 story idea was that Dark Souls would be like final fantasy where games would take place in the same universe but would be self contained...
Then the fan reaction to DS2 happened and that went straight out the window.
DS3
DS2
Bloodborne
DS1
Elden Ring
Sekiro
Hated Sekiro, which is just my personal subjective bias, but am not the biggest fan of elden ring either due to the open world aspect. Also while it's not the top of my list, DS2 was where I entered the series at and the original version I always thought was an excellent starting point for people who are unfamiliar with Souls titles and allowed me to get into the mind set while also giving me my first big moments against bosses and such, so it holds a special place for me specifically. I understand why some people don't like it as much as the other titles, but I don't think it's as bad as people make it out to be either.
Really think Bandai Namco is going to try and milk Elden Ring to death - they have already commented how they want Elden Ring to also reach "other forms of media" - so don't be surprised if we get an anime series or movie alongside a sequel.
And can anyone explain to me what the hell "The Deep" actually is or was Miyazaki still reading too much Lovecraft?
"No matter what we do or how well we do it it will piss off the fans."
Hence why i brought up the miyazaki example as a lot of fans literally won't accept any Dark Souls game unless he's the one making it.
The dev's hands are tied by the fan base hence why things like elden ring which are dark souls adjacent/spiritual successors are being made instead.
As its their only real way of continuing the series without the fanbase rioting.
