Your question is one of the most favorite objects to discuss.
In short: Yes, you can play this game with K&M and it doesn't feel weird.
It has odd keybinds that cannot be changed, such as the map key being G you cant change that. Keyboard controls are fine. Can be clunky feeling especially on horse back, youll have to set it up to how you like it. Like you can change most things, but some you cant, and this game also uses 1 key bind for several things, like the dodge/sprint button is the same.
But it isnt like terrible. Its pretty up to you on what you wanna use. If youre patient set up the controls on keyboard how you feel comfy with. The best thing about keyboard is it is muh easier to track enemies while moving around, but that isnt like a huge deal. I find it easier on controller to position my guy, since your character attacks where he is looking, not where the camera is looking.
It is 100% playable with keyboard and mouse. And its 100% playable with controller.
Saying it doesn't feel weird is HIGHLY disingenuous. Yes, it can be done. No, it's not as bad as some games. But it does feel quite clunky with m/k, the game was clearly designed with controllers at the forefront and m/k as something of an afterthought.
my dude, its just their opinion. It doesnt feel weird to them, but does for you.
Sure, the initial key-mapping is a bit weird, but I think after getting used to it, it starts to make much more sense and becomes quite comfortable (no big finger stretches, etc.).
And if you can't get used to it, the game allows you to rebind the keys.
I'd say, give the game a go. It will not feel weird or bad with KB+M.
Also go to settings and set the prompts to K&M just so the tutorial messages and whatnot actually tell you useful info
Elden ring plays like any other game of the same/similiar genre with kb+m. The opinion about the game or in general from software games sucking with kb+m controls is outdated.
The opinion was formed back when dark souls 1 was literally unplayable with pc controls unless you installed a mod or back when dark souls 2 had input lag between mouse and keyboard inputs. Its been years since those games came out and controls of the newer games like dark souls 3, Sekiro and Elden ring are completely fine compared to other games.
If you have no problems playing games like the witcher, assassins creed or other 3rd person games with kb+m you wont have any problems with this game either. Just like some mentioned change the keybinding to your liking and make sure to set the button prompts in the menu to keyboard and mouse in settings.
