No boss in shaded castle?

So i was playing through the shaded castle with a friend when suddenly, we get invaded. We fight the invader a bit but eventually he runs away and we walk to the boss. Only, when i enter the fog door, no boss is found, just a grace. My friend doesn't get sent home either. Eventually i just send him back manually and go back to the round table. But now i'm thinking: was this a bug, or something more sinister? I'm wondering if the invader used cheats to delete the boss or something, and if i should roll my save back to a backup in case i get banned for his meddling in my save file. Has this happened to anyone else? Should i be worried?

Update: It's been more than a week since the original incident, no warnings or penalties. I think it's safe to assume that this is a bug and not the result of a cheat.

lol @everyone calling out cheats when there's no proof of it.
this game has a lot of issues, it's 100% a bug. did you see the thread of people teleporting to placidusax and finding him alive again despite them already having killed him?
yeah.

btw if it would have been a cheater, you would have received the big banner saying that you defeated the boss, and would have received the runes and items.
cheaters cannot flip your game's world flags (in particular, you have the flag that says the boss is dead active, for some reason).
