Problematic Controller Works Perfectly, But Only When Playing Elden Ring.
I had a PowerA Xbox controller that got this terrible stick drift problem. Every game I played was just an absolute nightmare. After months of it just sitting in my room, I decide to plug it in and see if it worked. (I was tired of playing ER with Keyboard and mouse.)

Stick drift seemed to be gone. I never had any issues playing ER.

So after a few days, I decided to test it on other games. But every other game I tried had the drift issue. For some reason, Elden Ring works perfectly.

How is that? Keep in mind, I'm playing on steam, and have done nothing in-game to alter the control scheme. The only thing I notice is that a steam controller config notification pops up when I start the game. Could it be steam causing this controller to work, when previous attempts to adjust the dead zone failed?

could be the case, that the steam settings are able to use the directx input api better because this game use a digital conversation of analog inputs and the drifting can happen in just a slight range that it does not change the variable value of the conversation.

most other games use a direct analog input reading and any slight value change get recognized.

so far if direct analog input reading cause a drift, it is a bad production quality where only a hardware inspection and modification will solve the overall problem if it is not the analog stick itself.

So is this "digital conversion" only present in Elden Ring, or can steam's controller settings "fix" other games as well?

You can only try if the steam Settings use the same conversation technics internal (i just know only the input reading technics of elden ring, because i analysed the communication from this game to directx).
