I only played Far Cry 3 and 5 and I dislike their open world formula too.
"I'm disappointed."
Truly, the words of our parents inform our own, eh, OP?
ask yourself, "what do i truely want from a video game?"
being lost is also not a bad thing, it usually leads to oneself making a decision where to go next - and finding something on your own should be pretty rewarding
just look around you, do you see something thats looks like its worth investigating?
in this game YOU have to decide what to do next
not used to that? well it gets easier, but you have to start doing that and not watch a guide - because your brain will not reward you appropriately if you follow someone elses decisions
or maybe its just not for, not everybody is the same and has to like the same things
Thats all you need to do.
If you get stuck look for specific guides how to progress or ask here.
Because they are linear games more or less. I was lost maybe once or twice in DS1 and it was with Painted World because of this stupid dragon that block the path and Tomb of the Giants since I didn't had any light.
I don't like wondering around because I found it somewhat boring, since the world is so big and overwhelming I want to have clear path or more indicators of where might be dungeon or anything.
Well then this might be not for you. I love just roaming around and see what i find.
Have you tried Fallout games and Mass Effect games? Fallout is open world and holds your hand more than ER and Mass Effect is linear space FPS. Try that.
Or try Dragons Dogma. Open World but more linear. Fun game really.
I have many criticisms many this game, a little hate and a lot of love for the spirit of it. Ambition behind the execution was grandeur.
