You might need a while to get a comfy setup but if you played this type of game alot before it should be no problem. I had a good setup in 30 min or so, including playtime of course to get used to the game.
And this comes from someone who actually likes gamepads for some types of games. But 3rd person combat often plays better with m+kb. Some games which are more casual and more focus on crowd fight like shadow or mordor or AC work alright with gamepad too.
It depends on the game but FS games are actually better with m+kb once you get used to it imo.
I thinks its just a matter of preference to some degree tbh. There are technical benefits you can't ignore. FPS with gamepad? Aiming with thumbsick is objectively garbage. You can like it better thats fine but that doesnt change the fact its technically worse for that purpose.
But yes its mostly preference and you should play with what's comfy for you but you should not ignore the otrher option by default.
At least playing a more casual FPS like Borderlands with a Controller isn't that bad, but if I tried to WASD my way through Elden Ring I think i'd have carpal tunnel syndrome by the end of a single session.
Just keep playing. The pain goes away again when you have achieved "gamer hand" ;)
You think its worse that using a "crocked finger" to play on gamepad? I tried play ER on gamepad for joke and idk how you people do jump attacks with the default settings.
Also pressing shoulder buttons is way more hurtfull for your hand that pressing buttons on a keyboard or mouse :D
Meanwhile for shoulder buttons I kind of wind up hitting them with the bottom of my fingers most of the time.
...I've got very strangely shaped hands.
