Friendly reminder to use tongue
Please remember to use the taunter's tongue when you summon people for ganks. A lot of time is wasted standing there waiting for invaders for 10 minutes if you're not using your taunter's tongue. Tonguing makes invasions happen almost immediately. Use it frequently, too. Tongue after every invader dies. Tongue every 30 seconds. Tongue until the invaders come.

It is a fascinating thing to me that by introducing ways for more casual players to play a souls game it completly changed players behaviour. In former titles it was a common thing to stand in popular invasion places and waiting to be invaded to solo the most invaders possible, while in elden it seems that people lean more into ganking the invaders with several people, it is double fascinating that at the same time people will call invaders mean griefers. Personally I do not invade in this game except 3 times for the quest, so don't count me into baited people, I just read about it on the forum. It is trully interesting for someone who dabbles in psychology, it is like animal kingdom almost, stuff straight from discovery channel with hyenas surrounding the lion.

No there were gankers in every souls game. If people wanted to gank then they would gank.

Also there were complaints about invaders even calling them griefers in the first Dark Souls the only difference now is that the game is more accessible to casual players which means that there are more casual players to call them out.

I played a lot of other souls games, I think I've got about 700h in both ds 1 and 3, not so much in ds2, but in all those hours I have only heard about gankers, never met one actual gank squad, except meme ones which were always a fun encounter. It seems like a much, much more common thing here and same situation with toxicity, which was very rare in former titles - at least to my experience.

Good advice. And to the other posters...Ganking is a funny logic. Here we have a typical invader who gained every advantage they could, for the lowest level possible...And then says it's unfair when faced against three people who A. Have no gear, B. Probably aren't skilled (due to the early regions, that are typically hit) and C. lack all of the consumables, the invader has.

So, excuse me if I laugh at the concept of ganking, within the souls series. There are legit, unfair cases...But, for the most part, invaders are severely OP, from my experience.

DS3 after the pontiff was always a good place to run into gankers.

gank squad started to be a thing with the password MP addition, in regular DS1 it was too convoluted to do for most players. Invasion was also way better, same for healing as your summon couldn't heal with estus, and had to rely on you most of the time (or burn humanities, but these ain't easy to get)

I could be convinced to it in any other souls, but in elden the odds are completly stacked against the invader since You cannot invade solo people - well, can, but it is very rare to get a person who choses to use the tongue solo.

Most of the time invader would show up to a world with host and 2 overleveled password sunbros, to add to that there are few people that use taunter tongue, so no help from 2nd red, but still highly probable that blue police will show up as 4th squad member. Meanwhile red has 5 estus and loses runes if he dies, same as host, and the reward for winning is noexistent really.

Matchmaking also takes in consideration not only lvl, but highest weapon upgrades, and last of which im not sure of - talisman pouches, which would also mean that both host and invader alredy likelly finished the game if both got all talisman slots. I will try to invade by myself at later time to confim that as my 3 invasions, even though all were against gank squad are not a sufficient amount to be 100% sure of it, but from descriptions gathered on wiki and forum, everything is set up in a way to help the host ward off invaders, and I'd love to see the percentage of succesfull invasions vs failed ones here.

I believe you. It's no accident to address ganking by describing twinking.
