Graphics problem with Fortissax
Has anyone else experienced constant GPU crashes against this boss? For some reason my card really hates him and only him. I have the latest drivers, verified the game cache and monitored the performance of the card while playing but it just happens at random while in this specific fight.

are you playing with hardware below the recommended specs? People can help you if you provide actual information like your PC setup.

Yeah, this game runs fine for me otherwise, but Fortissax often causes my game to crash. Would love to hear what graphics settings I could turn down just for his fights.

Here's my computer information. I don't have a great set-up, but the rest of the game runs fine.
CPU Brand: Intel(R) Core(TM) i5-9600K CPU @ 3.70GHz
Driver: Radeon RX 580 Series
Memory: RAM: 8113 MB

Funny story, I was playing the game modded with seamless co-op and the randomizer, and guess who replaced Margit? Fortissax. 😱

Verify your game files.

I believe it's the red lightning effects that cause crashes for older GPUs. Turning Effect Quality to Low fixed it for me consistently.

one of my two setups has a 1070ti with factory driver, all settings maxed and enhanced with nvidia control panel. no issues since launch.

I have an RX 590 8GB and the rest of the hardware meets or surpasses minimal requirements, a Ryzen 5 2400g and 24 GB of RAM. But the problem is specifically with the GPU since the AMD software detects the crash every time it happens and it's only with this boss.

Thanks, I'll test it out and report back.

I have nothing to contribute, only to infect your brains with Forty Snacks.

Nope, didn't work. Even with low effects quality it still crashed. I think it's more of a problem with the card, the game freezes, the screen shows artifacts and then goes black. I may have to replace it soon.

While it's always possible such symptoms hint on a defective card, I don't think that's the case here. Crashes at Fortissax and the Faram Azula Dragons seem to be common. In my experience (running a sub-minimal rig with an RX 580) those were the only crashes I had in ER, beside one other instance at the Albinauric Farm when I received dozens of HP/FP returns, which was effect overkill as well.
For reference I run all settings at Max in FullHD except SSAO at High, Dof & MB off, EQ at Low, Grass at Medium. Another thing that can kill performance and stability is the Image Sharpening setting in Adrenalin, which might be enabled after a driver update without your knowledge.
Anyway, hope you'll find a way to get rid of those crashes.

Try search type in CMD then run as admin then a box comes up type sfc /scannow it fixes all windows issues let it run and then verify game files

Tried that but didn't prevent the crash. It's something to do with the boss and how it reacts with the graphics card.

look at the windows event logs and post the log of the crash here, maybe we can find this way what is causing the crash.

So I tried similar graphics settings to you and removed image sharpening in the software and I managed to have a 5 minute long fight with him before it crashed with one hit left to beat him. Then next attempt took 5 seconds to crash. There is no pattern to how it happens, no specific attack, it just happens when it wants to. I think I'm just gonna give it up for now and come back later.

It's a GPU crash. Every time it happens I get a message on the AMD software that goes: the AMD wattman settings have been restored to default due to an unexpected failure. Wattman being the feature that manages voltage and overclocking, but this card isn't overclocked at all.
