Yeah, it's just a coincidence that every major NPC's name begin with the letter G, R or M.
That 38 million is not correct. There is an article you can find online with 3.8 million, which may be where that number comes from.
https://www.gamesradar.com/elden-ring-is-now-easily-fromsoftwares-best-selling-game-ever/
Yeah, forgive me, you're correct, the link you posted showed we both are wrong lmao.
Still my first opinion about this was from DS3 10million copies and ER 13, it wasnt so bad difference wise.
13 million in the first few months - that's a huge success. You would have to compare the games in the same timeframes.
Actually the reason i had even compare it to begin with was replying fromsoft can't make good titles without leechin' off others works. A person who bought DSPTDE/DSR and liked? would buy ds2, then ds3, maybe sekiro, and probs for sure ER. That's how popularity works+There was marketing, but the product itself and the devs were the reason.
I would guess marketing helped - there were even funny TV ads (I'm sure you can find that on YT). That plus GRRM 's name for some, the game being hyped by gaming sites/magazines, and the "legend" of the Soulsborne franchise building up over the years. However, imo this game wasn't overhyped - there are so many examples for that. It delivered what it promised, doubts because of the open world were unfounded (at least for me - I loved it) and rarely did I get that much quality content for the admission price. The amount of content in the game is ridiculous.
The downside rn is the often DC issues in coop.
That said, i also got the game for free(sold like 5 foil cards lmao)
Overall, satisfaction is solid, positive, as it was with majority of customers(and we have around 60/90h content without dlcs, which is rare in AAA nowadays)
I never said that From can't make a good title without leeching off others work. As a matter of fact, I bought ER because I greatly enjoyed their other titles. I'm just saying that for this game in particular there was a clear marketing effort to appeal to a wider audience. Moreover, one could argue that it was conceived from the very begining to be a blockbuster type of product.
Think about this... They took the good reputation of the developers and announced a "new ip" to cut ties with their other popular -but still kinda niche titles-, they added the mandatory "open world" formula into the mix like everybody else seem to be doing nowdays, they announced a colaboration with the best selling fantasy author (and TV show) of the moment and designed the name to spark the curiosity of a massive existing fandom. And I'm not even mentioning how Bandai commissioned content and pushed a massive marketing move through streamers and content creators.
Honeslty, if something is truly worth of praise regarding this game, is the outstandig marketing campaign they came up with and the success it had.
They did the same with BB and Sony, again it's just a deal, now Tencent and Sony hold 30% of their shares, half for each too, so we can expect more exclusives, potential cut content sold as DLC.
They didn't do anything very strong about marketing strategy as opposed to they gave silence, and people (core fans) couldn't rest until some news, so they kept something that wasn't tangible as the main hyper core, I was expecting a weaker game at launch To be honest, I loved PVE and everything ER brought, but ER PVP and late game or ng+2 and above can be pure cancer, in this regard both DSR+DS3 are superior games.
Also, they cut ties with the Dark Souls franchises for several reasons, one of them, you can't call Elden Ring a DS even though it uses the same main formula, free jump, horse battle, no convenant, and etc, etc, etc(too many changes). Same as with the unique traits of demon souls, the world tendency is such a unique and excellent trait that only demon souls has....
I'd rather dev who does this, than Ubisoft who make 10 games out of AC titles, but each one is different from the last one, but using the franchise name as marketing instead of being really creative.
So
.."Cutting ties" with a franchise can be a freedom of choices also, also honouring an old IP legacy.
A thing i would really like to see, is King's field remake or similar to be honest btw, i believe from have a capital to do something like that nowadays.
The Souls cult hopped on Twitter, took pics of the opening scene of RoP depicting the Two Trees of Valinor, and shared it on the Elden Ring Twitter asking the devs, "How do you feel about Rings of Power stealing your Erdtree idea?"
The complete unintelligence and failure to understand that LoTR came BEFORE Elden Ring was astounding.
Literally, one of the Two Trees of Valinor is described as a "giant golden tree." How tf else were they supposed to depict it?
And If im to be honest, Amazon adaption is so bad which managed to be worse than shadow of war...
My Hope as follow, regardless of rings of Power, would be cool to see Beren and Luthien done in good adaption, Morgoth betrayal against the Valars(way better villain and people only highlight Sauron) elven battles against the armies of Balrogs.
