Melania vs Collosal sword str build
so thats it... seems impossible.. anyone done it?? On my fourth play through and am trying all bosses with no summons. Have all weapons, flasks, talismans etc. Her attacks combos are too rapid for my stamina to keep up especially in phase 2.. Utterly impossible. Using collosal greatsword with raptor.. If I use a mimic or anything else i can destroy her handily. want to beat all bosses 1v1...Suggestions?? I was thinking maybe Endure with jump attack talisman??

Ironjar Aromatics.

Face-tank through her damage and her healing. It's how I beat her on my blind run with the Godslayer GS.

Hit and Run works well against her.

If anything the Colossal Sword run was probably my easiest kill against her out of all my runs.

If you're a strength build, you can equip Fingerprint or another high-stability greatshield. If you would be willing to level up a weapon that can shield poke (especially one with a status ailment on it), you can pretty easily just hide behind it and whittle her down through the self-heal on blocks.

Otherwise, Royal Knight's Resolve + jump attacks. A LOT of jump attacks.

Why not practice parrying?

I've beaten her three separate times using a colossal greatsword.

Utilize jumping attacks and crouch pokes, for the AoW I either use flame of the redmanes or giant hunt, not too bad after a bit of practice, crouch poking with the thing is kind of insane.

There are videos of people killing her and not being hit one with an UGS. Search for them and look how they move.

Guts Greatsword was my easiest Melina kill, was using a heavy infused lions claw. Found that blocking if I got caught in waterfowl worked ok as long as I moved with her and didn't eat all the hits.

It was pretty much hit her twice and she was staggered, took a few tries but I think less than 30 min total.

Put on a shield and try to parry/block. It will take some practice, but it's a better tactic than going at her with an ultra slow weapon.

I think Fallingstar Beast Jaw may be better than the sword. I know it's weapon skill, Gravity Bolt, will stagger her after two hits if you're using the Stonebarb Cracked Tear in your Physick flask. Does mostly physical damage which she is weak to.

Colossal Sword is probably the most straightforward way to kill Malenia. However, using just a Colossal Sword alone is going to take a long time, and each mistake you make — and of course you're going to make a lot, this is Malenia we're talking about — is going to hurt you big time.
You're going to have to put in the legwork to memorize her full moveset if you want to both win and feel like you earned it without the move selector RNG handing the win to you on a silver platter.

Basic git-gudding aside, here's a few of my tipperinos:

1. Ashes of War, just in general, are almost all disgustingly broken compared to the rest of your normal kit. Whichever one you choose, analyze the moments in Malenia's moveset where you can get away with it and use it as often as you can.
I myself used Flame of the Redmanes, for both its easy stancebreaking power and its ability to manipulate Malenia's AI from long range.

2. Bring a projectile with you. In phase 1, Malenia literally can't do any of her moves if she's out of melee range, except for stepdodge and — this is important — Waterfowl Dance, if she's able to use it.
Once you get a feel for when Malenia's likely to throw out Waterfowl Dance, you can chuck a throwing knife or Ash of War projectile at her to force her to waste it. (You will still need to run away and then dodge the third hit, but it's a much better chance than trying to do it at melee range.)

3. With a Colossal Sword, you can usually take the initiative in phase 1 by running at Malenia from outside melee range and bonking her with a jump attack. This is Elden Ring though, so this tactic is beholden to Malenia's move selection RNG, and won't always work safely.

4. Malenia's 4-hit "swish-swish-swish swoosh" combo (you know the one) has two variants: fast and slow. The fast variant will always be followed up with another attack, while the slow variant will always be a combo finisher, allowing you to get in a safe punish.

5. Malenia opens phase 2 with Scarlet Aeonia. This is the attack that leaves her vulnerable the longest out of her entire toolkit, but you will need potent projectiles to be able to take advantage of it. She will be able to use it again, this time at will whenever she wants, once you knock her down to roughly 1/3rd of her phase 2 HP.
If you botch up the roll timing, Scarlet Aeonia has a second hitbox designed to rollcatch you that will kill you if it connects, so don't mess this one up.

6. Malenia can still use Waterfowl Dance in phase 2, but it's much less common since she now has many more moves to pull from her move pool. Don't feel bad about playing hyperdefensively.

7. Malenia's phase 2 Phantom Spirits attack has 7 hits to it, with each individual attack having different timings made to throw you off. If you have a good projectile and enough distance, you can just run away, roll away and basically the entire combo will miss, giving you a free projectile hit. Otherwise, you're going to need to commit this attack to memory.

Well it sucks

you can get good RNG and constantly stance break her or you can get bad RNG and almost never stance break her.....

for stance break you need a heavy/jump attack 3 times each within 6 second window following the other....
if you have good rng you will constantly stance break her

if you have bad rng and she decides to randomly super armour through your 3rd hit that would stun her ... well lol games just says no

So for me i just 2hand r1 her for the most part
its annoying but not that more difficult than anything else if you know her moveset well

I find this to be unfortunately VERY true... Her moves are totally rng. Sometimes waterfoul 3 times before phase 2 sometimes shes just pacing back n forth and doing her poke-dash which is super telegraphed and easy to punish. Phase 2 less waterfoul but wayyyyyy more agro and 3-6 hit combo- scarelett dive, 3-6 combo, rush poke....Phase 2 gets rough. my stamina usually runs out and i die as she just out heals my pots and runs my stamina down. If she has a stamina pool it must be around 1.2 trillion stamina

Lion's Claw can pancake her allowing you to get an extra hit after it. Just be aware of the hyperarmor moves.

Crouch poke spam. it still does loads of dmg and poise dmg and is way faster then just dodge at least half of thewaterfowl when it happens and you is Gucci
