I've always thought it was to be red with Latin spelling, so Cae- should be pronounced like the “che” in chest. “Lid” is red the same, so “Che,lid” should be the best approximation.
Coincidentally, “Caelum” is the Latin word for Sky, while Caelid, afaik, has no meaning… grasping at straw I suppose Caelid could be loosely interpreted as “(The thing) which (is as) sky”. Heavenly, maybe?
Latin and Italian have no clear-cut distinction between Heaven and Sky.
So Caelid could have been some sort of paradisiac land, before Malenia wastelanded it… and considering the name, the idea that maybe once upon a time, Farum Azula was part of Caelid too could also be true (because of Azula, which is a lot like the Latin word for Cerulean, another reference of heavenly themes).
