How do you avoid this boss character's diving move --> flower bloom

She dives on me takes off 9000000000000000000 heatlh then finishes me off with another 9000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000 health after the flower opens.

I try to time the dodge which seems to do nothing. I have a gtreat shield, can i block this/

Oh, it's very simple. Right after the cutscene, sprint towards her until you run into an invisible hitbox underneath her. Then circle it and sprint in the opposite direction of her dive bomb. This works because Malenia's tracking while in the air can't keep up with your lateral movement up close.

Not a good idea to block it, as the explosion and lingering AoE both proc the most potent form of Scarlet Rot in the game.

EDIT: The circling also applies to dodging the first flurry of Waterfowl Dance at close range.

Actually if you use your face as shield (did it on purpose in the video....to make it useful you know) with a perfume up the first Aeonia hit doesnt build rot. The second will build a little but after the explosion you will fly away from it.
Just have to survive.....this works but better if you OP try to dodge it.

I mentioned 2 attacks, the diving move and the bloom. Is this in reference to the scarlet rot bloom?

If so, that means I tank the dive, then run forward and to the right, towards her to avoid scarlet rot?

No, you dont tank the rot dive and running the way I told you you compmetely avoid the bloom rot explosion.

IMHO It's best NOT to tank the dive: provided you are not overencumbered, dodging the attack and subsequently gaining a bit of distance to avoid the Scarlet Rot explosion should be simple enough, then you'll be able to exploit the long recovery time of Malenia's attack to hit her with some powerful incantation (icy breath, multiple fully charged blackflames, and so on), sorcery or ranged AoW. Of course, if you use Ironjar Aromatics you have no choice but tanking

You dont need to tank anything. Just unlock after cutscene and run straight underneath her and keep running. She will overshoot and land far behind you.

But I think I have enough stamina to block both hits. If I use that item fast enough, maybe I can just block both hits and not get rotted.

Am I correct in assuming Uplifting Aromatic prevents rot entirely?

For the record, I use an almost exclusively melee build

just run away from the attack. either run towards her as she dives or run away/off to the side. the first hit will miss and then distance yourself to avoid the burst/rot damage. you can wait out the flower's duration or use ranged attacks to deal damage while its taking its course. alternatively you can throw an ice jar thing at her during the initial flying animation and it may knock her down

It's funny I literally just asked how to survive the beginning of this fight and I'm met with snarky and d*ckhhead behavior. It's no wonder so many people hate "gamers".

I actually genuinely hate the vast majority of "gamers" myself now because they're snot nosed a**holes.

The general attitude of most "gamer communities is using toxic language, talking down to people who ask questions, and generally expecting people to know answers.

First you have to time your roll well to avoid her first diving impact, and then, with that button still pressed, simply run away from her before the flower opens. It could be her less dangerous move since its slow and easy to avoid once you know it.

Light weight dodge is better than BHS, From nerfed it, it is now most likely average dodge.

As some others have stated, sprinting is the answer. Keep in mind I had pre-buff light rolls for at least my solo attempt.

When I solo'd it, I unlocked on the first one and ran under and through and took no damage. I did not unlock on the second one, sprinted a little, then dodged. I took some damage.

When I helped others do it in co-op, I did not unlock and I sprinted away. I took 0 damage each of the two times.

Sometimes bosses or game mechanics in video games change from patch to patch and it's difficult to reconcile from watching videos which might be old or aren't even dated.

That's where the community comes into help each other out. I've been a part of a few games where I've spent way too long looking at outdated game math.
