Storm Stomp is stupid.
Im surprised almost nobody talks about this AOW.

This thing basically gives you an absurd amount Hyper Armor, making impossible to interrupt it without really heavy attacks (And i mean HEAVY) and anyone caught in it will get stunned followed by a guarantee hit.

Its just dumb tbh.

Seriously... even Rivers of Blood which i hated with passion, that needed to be nerfed, but i didnt wanted for it to be useless, and thank god that ended up not being the case, i tried it myself, and fought it post patch, this thing is still very viable, but now its fair and not just a "i win" button.

RoB is Parry food; literally one of the easiest AoWs in the game to Parry.. yet because so many spammed it, and so many more were unwilling to even attempt to abuse Parry against it, it got nerfed. A true testament to both how bad the general public is at PvP, and that they will outright ignore every tool given to them to overcome 90% of the situations in this game.

To some extent, I do disagree with the RoB nerf, in a 1v1 the thing was very manageable, though at the same time - the nerf was very reasonable, it mostly reduced the damage the ranged part of the WA did, and only slightly decreased the amount it does while you hit someone with the blade, over-all makes more sense to me.

The weapon was more notorious among the less experienced PvPers for basically being "the best", when in reality that's probably dual naginatas.
storm stomp is actually one of the most discussed ashes of war that are overtuned and need a nerf among serious pvp'ers, but there are not really any serious pvp'ers posting regularly on places like here and reddit. the amount of hyperarmor is fine - its how early it starts that is the issue. it allows players to reaction trade almost anything in the game, and combo it into a high damage attack like ugs r1, claymore r2, or dual ss/cs L1. if you make the hyperarmor start later, you lose the ability to reaction trade and have to put a bit of thought into making successful trades, just like almost every other weapon and ability in the game. this change also should not really effect pve much, so this kind of pvp related improvement should be a no brainer.

Ok let me ask you something:

If Rivers had infinite range and insta killed, would it be balanced by your logic? i mean, its death easy to parry, so it excuses how absurd it was after all, thing could be the most broken thing in the game but cause "muh parry" its ok apparently...

Now you see why that argument is stupid?

Yeah, reducing the start up frames would be the best move, since it actually makes it so it takes skill to use the AOW, rather than just reaction trade.
Quickly scanned through this thread, not sure if anyone mentioned it, but did you have a problem with perseverance in DS3? Storm Stomp to me functions as a similar AoW to perseverance in terms of the trading. The version in Elden Ring, endure, I almost never see ran...ever.

(Maybe it's an unfair comparison, but I think that endure and storm stomp fill the same niche as AoW's designed to trade with an opponent)

At least from my personnel experience, it's mainly people A). Using it on faster weapons that can't necessarily trade well to force a potential favorable punish if I over-extend, or B). People using the Claymore because of the stomp->heavy combo it has.

I really liked the Black Knight Sword in DS3 as it gave me the option to potentially trade/out-damage an opponent using a heavier weapon. I don't necessarily see an issue with storm stomp as it wholly relies on the ability of your weapon to combo from it, which a majority of the heavier weapons can't. I do wonder why "endure" even exists in this game since it's so massively over-shadowed by the relative safety of storm stomp.

*Edit: I know people could spam it to create "un-approachable" situations. Slowing it down may be a solution. But I do think there are several stronger ashes that need some fine tuning higher on the priority list than storm stomp. Also, it is almost entirely useless in PvE. I can not think of one situation in the game that storm stomp would ever be a viable choice to run in PvE considering things like Flame of the Redmane's, Transient Moonlight, RKR, etc. etc. exist.

Not the same though, even with Perseverance (which if my memory doesnt fail me, was the one that increased your Hyper Armor for some secs) you could easily still miss your attacks and get hit with no trade off.

With Storm Stomp, you guarantee a hit if you land it, and might even interrupt the attack, allowing you to get a free hit.

Correct on what perseverance did. Yeah I understand the sentiment. IMO since there are several set-ups and builds that can do upwards of over half your health (Even at 60 Vigor, 2000+ health), having an option in your tool belt that can counter jump attack spam with an anti-air, knock down hit-box and people who spam roll's or quickstep around you is pretty neat.

I did add an edit though to my previous comment saying that slowing down the start up would be a decent solution since it would at least make it "more skillful" to use. Just seems like there are several stronger AoW's in the game that probably need attention first before storm stomp.
