How I fixed my Elden Ring after update to v1.06
Here is what I did to fix Elden Ring after it updated to v1.06:

1. Start Steam.
2. Go to Steam > Library > Home > (right click on) Elden Ring in games list> Select "Properties..." from the pop-up menu.
3. Click the tab on the left menu for "LOCAL FILES".
4. Click on "Verify integrity of game files..."
5. Wait for the files to verify, this may take a few minutes, but the screen will update with progress (Verifying integrity of files... XX%). Files may automatically download if found to be abnormal. Mine found two.
6. Once files have been verified, close Steam and restart computer.
7. Go back to step 1 and verify the files. This time it should find all are correct. Run the Elden Ring.
8. Profit.

**I can't say this is going to work for everyone, but it worked for me. I thought I would add a how to that worked rather than post my problem.**

We know.

The number of people asking for help after a patch drops likely numbers in the hundreds at this point. Advice is almost always "Verify your games files." There are even PSAs. It really should have its own theme song at this point.

not sure if meme or serious about verify game files....

i never did it for elden ring and all patches worked.
in all my 13/14 years of steam i maybe verified game files 2 times ?
and it never made a difference ...

however here in steam forums people seem to verify daily >_<
the more serious question should be why your computer cant handle a steam download
without corrupting the files...

i mean its pretty simple

every patch your copy gets synchronized with the "perfect" elden ring copy on their servers....
for whatever reason this fails for many guys here (it should not >-<)

so you just repeat the process manually....

It's probably an OS issue or perhaps antivirus software, who really knows. People who find verifying "fixes" their problems of constant corruption should know it's temporary and they should find the source of those corruptions as there may be something more serious going on.

Please be joking.
Unless that was a meme too.

It's a valid question. Never had issues with Steam's patching process either, including Elden Ring. I can only assume that people use the time during the patching process to download, install and delete a whole bunch of random files and reboot their PC two times while it's going on or doing some other random stuff that interferes with patching the game.

Edit: Even weirder considering that after every patch Steam installs it shows a "Verifying files..." progress bar right afterwards automatically. Doesn't that happen for everyone and if not, why?

You never had a problem so there isn't a problem, it's user error.
That's already a meme in itself.

Then you feel you 'can only assume' people do the most hare-brained things during a regular download and patch with absolutely nothing to suggest that's what happened.

Come on now.
Even if Steam's update and validate system was flawless (it's not) this is FromSoft we're talking about, the burden of proof defaults to them merely going by their record - and I say that as someone who swears by their games and have done for 10 years.

ngl kind of annoyed by this. The last time i needed to verify files after a update was for some Slav jank i had which i expected because its jank.

Never had to bother with verifying of files on a major game before because of a update. would like to know why this was different.

In the ELDEN RING\Game folder, you will find four rather large files: Data0.bdt (10.6GB), Data1.bdt (11.9GB), Data2.bdt (18.9GB), Data3.bdt (2.47GB). Steam's delta patching system combined with the enormous size of Elden Ring's resource files works well with creating the conditions necessary for corrupt files after patching.

Though I think one more condition is necessary. Taking a shot in the dark, I'd guess insufficient disk space prior to the patch. Need a survey asking folks with corrupt files how much disk space they have available.

I'm happy to hear this. I will say in objection, I haven't updated windows in a couple years and my under-speced potato runs this game well.
