Well actually th at is pretty special given there are only about 5 true soulslike games out there, and none of them are super mega hits. The fact that such a small amount of games with a relatively small amount of sales have already defined their own sub-genre is something.
Anyway this game is special because it's the first big openworld souls-like.
No comment from me. I never gush about a game being amazing for graphics. This game included
comments like this is why people will respond in a hostile non-constructive manner, because you're basically insulting people who disagree before they even give you why they disagree. I like the combat because...
I don't use the word 'immersion' very often in games, because I'm disabled IRL, and so many games let you play as a character who is basically super-human. Even if you aren't a superhero in game, you're still superhuman. Mario even can jump like 10x his own body height. Ryu in ninja gaiden can block machine gun fire with a sword, your character in diablo can push a skillbutton one time and murder 10 demons with one click.
I like Souls games because you can sneak up on a ledge and see 2 ordinary knights below and go 'damn.. 2 knights... uh oh... how should I approach this sensibly?'.
Souls games make me NOT take for granted how powerful my avatar is, and it makes the success feel all the sweeter. That's not masochism, that's a believable fantasy.
I admit, I think the games would be better if the rolls were more about getting out of the way to avoid damage, and less about i-frames. But given the mechanics other games have, I don't think it's particularly bad. And 1000 hits is an exaggeration. I don't even think margot would take 1000 hits to kill with a +0 dagger at level 1, and margot is considered an especially difficult first major boss in the souls series already, but even he is done that way to encourage you to explore in its open world.
I've killed most bosses in under 40 hits, let alone 100, let alone 1000. Major exaggeration.
If it's so simple why do you think it's masochistic to pull off? Again, you're coming across as an nonconstructive whiny complainer with little desire to learn or improve or understand.
Well I think it's overhyped cuz open world and george RR martin... by the 'professional' reviewers I mean. If you look at the user reviews, they aren't overhyped. I mean I love this game a ton and think it deserves the high critic reviews the same as any other game with su ch high reviews (from them), but I can admit that it's not absolutely perfect except like a 4% flaw or something.
Now I think your opinion is just stupid. Calling its open world artificial because it has a lot of areas being 'above your level' is dumb imo. OTHER open world games ARE artificial BECAUSE they hard-code everything to match your level. This game doesn't.
Well its sales are super high, and over half the users got past Margot with over 20+ hours of played, so I think it's kinda doing pretty good as far as AAA games are considered.
The fact that you think it takes a 'masochist' to enjoy this game makes me doubt you're actually a gamer, and I would hate to see your standards.
I can get gamers, or non gamers not liking this game, because they may want more escapism or something, and the fact that your avatar isn't some superhero or something may ruin that for their intention. But any true 'gamer' should realize that there is a market for that kind of game with its challenge, and if they can't see that, what the heck makes them t hink they are a gamer? They spent thousands of h ours on 1 or 2 super mainstream games and/or a few mobile games?
Probably the best most thought out and well reasoned response in this entire thread lol.
i think its over rated but for a good reason the game is amazing but the combat is quite clunky as is all soul games
I agree that its not that unique as many finds it. But then again its peoples opinions. And its fine.
Always loved the Dark Souls series, so Elden Ring fitted me well. Dident expect alot more then that, and i havent bin dissapointed.
But i guess its all about what expectations you have to the game.
ok boomer. so basically criticism, hence not welcoming ex ante each and every pile of $hit that gets shoved in your throat is being spoiled? not so friendly reminder, fromsoft isnt publishing games for charity or just for our entertainment, they are making good money off of them, often even using recycled assets instead of being innovative. for someone who claims they have been around for such a long time you seem to have zero understanding of how the world works.
this game is the most tedious and lazy From release ive ever seen, annoying and unfun enough to drive you to the verge of uninstalling, and it even costs a lot more than any souls release so far without having the same replayability appeal: advertising does wonders. people bought into the hype and they got what they asked for, a rushed mess with no SOUL (get it?) poured in it.
Tbh I find elden ring has the most replayability of any souls game i've played, there are so many different weapons and build options (especially using ashes of war) its super fun to play through mulitple times.
id be surprised if people were not pushed away from the genre because of this title alone. i am sure that they are enjoying the game solely because they play with friends or use summons that trivialize the game to a massive extent. because if those same people were to move on to any DS game they would be utterly bewildered by the lack of those mechanics. (they could still summon in boss fights sure but they would have to put in some work as well, summons in DS games make the bosses stronger)
then again i dont really care about how people play, want the game to be a walk in the park or maybe try to overcome challenges with your own skill? the choice is yours but i can say i am proud of myself for never using a single summon for a boss fight or anything else in a DS game.
you are not making me proud of you with your lack of arguments, thats for sure
