Ancient dragons lightning strike vs death lightning?

What's your experience with them? Death lightning always hit for some massive damage when I use it. Which do you guys prefer and why?

I prefer the Ancient Dragon's Lightning Strike: it can multi hit massive enemies who loves to move around (dragons, erdtree’s avatars and so on)...
It is also more reliable, while death lightning is more difficult to plan around (Also, deathblight is pretty useless).

Ancient dragon magics, just regularly progress in the game and explore a lot, you will meet them. Or you can just google them, if you dont mind being spoiled.

Ancient Dragons' Lightning Strike must be learned after finding the pertaining prayerbook in Farum Azula
The Deathlightning on the other hand can be obtained as a reward by Enia at the Roundtable hold if you present the Soul of an optional boss (Lichdragon Fortissax).

Death lightning usually hits for lots of dps, but I have no experience with the second one. Anyway, thank you for your feedback!

Yw: a lucky ancient dragons' lightning strike usually can 2 shot an erdtree avatar. Dunno if the DPS is in the ballpark for you :)

Dude, stop everything, just hit Ancient dragons lightning strike for over 6000 damage. What the actual ♥♥♥♥. For me a lot of damage was steady 1300 from death lightning. Over 6000 on a single cast, ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ hell...

ADLS has a larger AoE, is more consistent, and does more damage to very large targets.

Death Lightning deals better damage as an uncharged attack, but only in a very small area around the player.

ADLS is generally better in PvE, where the extra time needed to charge it isn't as much of a concern and the very high potential damage can be utilized. In PvP, Death Lightning is generally the better spell because ADLS is simply too slow to be effective when charged and doesn't hurt badly enough to be effective when uncharged.

Especially when you catch that enemy moving in the direction of your expanding spell.

Or when they evade back into the spell which is still spreading around. Erdtree Avatars are especially vulnerable to this.

Why not Fortissax's Lightning Spear, it's even better than ancient dragon lightning strike

Death Lightning is very short range, you can send Ancient Dragon's ahead into a lot of bosses. I don't think Fortissax's Lightning can multihit the way Death and Ancient can.

Ancient Dragon Lightning Strike is like the highest potential damage spell in the game I think.

When I used it against Placidusax I saw it do like 20,000 damage from one cast.
