Where can I get a Crossbow?

Hi,

I'm in the first area, Limgrave, I have a bow, and it's pretty effective but the arrows are expensive.
I literally have hundreds of crossbow bolts and pick up more all the time, but I can't find a crossbow.

I'd like to experiment using the bow and my summoned creature but it's a lot of cash to go through. Can anyone tell me where I could get a crossbow?

As far as progress, I finally beat the guy who was outside the door when you first arrive there. I assume that he is easier than the ones I'm going to run into later in this area.

But a bow might make a big difference since I'm carrying around all that ammo anyway.

there is one right on the round table behind that fog door sealed by stone swords key, but the best one is pulley crossbow, shoots 3 bolts, but you need to go here:

The Crossbow Emporium can serve all of your crossbow needs. You can find it just off the Liurnia Highway, exit 152.

Or, you can buy one from the Nomadic Merchant in eastern Weeping Peninsula.

You can buy a crossbow from the merchant near Morne Rampart grace. It's in the weeping peninsula, pretty easy area for low level characters.

Godrick soldiers drop lots of bolts for you lol.

You can also craft Bone Arrows with some really easy materials for free. Cookbook from Kalé, the very first merchant in the church (the guy you are probably buying arrows from).

Thanks for the information, yeah, I've saved all the ones that I've picked up, over 200 now.
I'm still trying to find my way around so I'll look for these locations tomorrow.

Let's hope he meant Tree Sentinel and not Varré

I much prefer shortbow myself, the bone arrows are easy to amass and the damage is always going to be terrible no matter what you do. Crossbow is also trash damage, but shortbow I use to lure things and spam status-bone arrows with Barrage.

I would recommend the full moon crossbow, though it is a pure pain to get, so good luck, but it's the overall strongest one.

Just fyi, you can craft arrows or bolts after purchasing some cookbooks.

Bows have longer range but must be 2-handed whilst I believe crossbows have shorter range but can be shot from off hand.

Edit: Excuse me for not using a crossbow in game but it actually has a longer range than a bow but does less damage ;P

Edit2: Disregard my last edit. Bow has greater range than crossbow - was mislead by GamerTweak website.

One of the soldiers just inside the first gate where you get Torrent dropped a crossbow for me. I'm not sure if I just got lucky or if he always drops it (it was a crossbow-wielding soldier standing in the tall grass along the left of the path as you head towards the castle). Best of luck in tracking one down!

There is a crossbow in the roundtable, just don't remember if you needed 1 or 2 keys.

"Finally beat the guy who was outside the door when you first get there" You talking about Tree sentinel? If so congrats dude! He's a tough boss for the area. Also any soldier you find who wields a crossbow has a chance of dropping it when killed IIRC. But don't get your hopes up for them being good weapons as they're mostly for utility, drawing aggro and causing status effects. The 3shot one is the best of the bunch when it comes to inflicting status effects and I believe the Black key? crossbow has the most range.

Hi thanks for the information,

I'm still in the starting area, but I'm as far east as I can get now.
Just found a Golden Seed, don't remember what it's for but I know it's valuable.
I have to keep away from the guys on horses, they all kill me quickly and I don't see them coming.

I just found another merchant near the castle with the Golden Seed outside. but didn't have time to see what he was selling.
Had to get out of the game but I"m at his camp.
