Why people should give blind playthrough a chance, is not because of Elitism as some claim
There is a video from ratatoskr that covers this points below:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FsUkbFgdJFM

My opinion is that I also noticed similar views, mainly from new souls player. They think that people saying play without spoilers and blind, as some sort of elitism, when in fact it is just advice. That experience of playing a souls game blind for the first time, you can only have once, and is such a shame so many people will never experience those feelings ever, because they have this " i will play however i want" or they will spoil everything by looking up guides. Quite sad really.

For me playing with spoilers is much greater evil then not finishing the game. It is once in a lifetime experience per game and something you can never get back. Yes if you can struggle you can open the guide, but at least give it a try.

What is your opinion?

Edit: edited title and body to try to make it less clickbaity

The article they're quoting from is from The Hard Drive which is a satire outlet anyways.

In this day and age I feel getting a blind play-through experience of most games requires us to not anticipate the game itself and disconnect from the wider world around us.
I do this for all the games I intend to play or beat one day. That's why I never watched anything on Baldurs gate 1, because I think I already own those games and intend to play them in the future.

Same goes for the new Tomb Raider trilogy. Actually, Elden Ring itself. I avoided ALL content. I just watched 15 secs, like 5 secs of 3 different videos, just to see if gameplay was on par with what I expected. Worth it.

Since I mainly use steam as social media and messaging apps on my phone, I can avoid using most of other social media apps, specially the spoiler fest called twitter.

EDIT: On the other hand I got ♥♥♥♥♥♥ in the ass because of this behavior when I bought C2077 on day 1

I prefer not to watch any game trailers because they all seem to have a habit of spoiling the plot excessively. I remember after playing The Last of Us 2 hearing people complaining about the trailer having a character model switch and (1) that lack of expectation on my end gave me a better experience with the game and (2) if more games did that then I think I’d be more inclined to watch trailers. At the very most I might look at a pure gameplay trailer if I absolutely know there’s no additional content.

Funny that you mentioned Cyberpunk 2077, because if you watched any of the hype videos I really don’t think you would have the information required to understand what you were getting with the final product. Ultimately buying any game on release is a gamble, and many developers aren’t interested in putting out realistic no-spoiler content. The risk equation is potentially ruining the narrative experience in exchange for mostly useless or deceptive content. I’m pretty sure there wasn’t any content from third parties that painted a realistic picture before release either.

I've never heard of anyone that has blatantly been against blind playthroughs in their totality.

In some capacity, there are a number of them here - albeit open for interpretation.
Example, anyone with a post like "Hey, just started and was wondering what weapons I should check out" is not a blind play-through, as you are likely going to get a swathe of meta stuff and some unique other suggestions if lucky; this then spoils the experience of trying a crappy weapon that looks cool as someone may have also advised against some things.

At the end of the day though - blind playthroughs are increasingly difficult as time goes on anyway as more outlets are peddling streams or detail. Like catching 5 minutes of someone streaming a game to me sorta starts to ruin the "blind playthrough" as any commentary about the game/mechanics will resonate with you somehow (good and you consider it advice, or bad and you find a way to use something or whatever).

Edit : Though I think OP may be more on about folks who watch YT streams and then want to copy the build and stuff, or even just pick a title up because their favorite streamer played it (saw plenty of that on another game I bought recently in the reviews... "___ sent me here")

I did this with a friend however we had one rule: we could ask each other about stuff but we didnt look up anything. We called it "Tarnished Tips" (just the tips). Part of this was also clarifying if you wanted a spoiler based on question. We both ended up looking up some stuff anyway but it was fun for a while.
