Elden Ring suffers from an identity crisis
Tell me what the theme of this game is, ds4? I thought this game would beat my fav game of all time Bloodborne. Boy was I wrong...

The thing that bugs me the most are the straight up cut item descriptions. What's up with that? It feels like there's supposed to be a third entry for pretty much every item. Example: Helm of Wolfnir the Bloody -- description reads: ''Helm of Wolfnir. The Bloody Knight Wolfnir wore this Helmet, giving it it's name.'' Like... NO ♥♥♥♥? But WHO was he??? What was he doing? What's his place in this world? Varre was also much more interesting in the Network Test telling us basically: ''Yeah I don't give a ♥♥♥♥, go die in a ditch and find your calling, follow the golden pee stream if you really want to progress. Maybe. I don't know or care.'' And now he's all gamified like ''Hellooo Tarnisheeeed welcome to Elden Ring. Go to Castle Stormveil and defeat the first Boss, Godrick to progress the game so you can unlock the new Hub Area.'' Bleh.

The setting itself is fine and shows a lot of potential and I thought most of the interesting Lore is just really well hidden. But looking at the Lore Videos, I got pretty much everything there is myself this time, which isn't really much.
Some time ago interviews with Miyazaki and From stated that there would be less criptic stuff and more exposition with NPCs but that isn't really the case either, as much of precisely that is... cut content :( Looking at you cut Godfrey dialogue. You know, he's pretty much the closest we have to a direct Ancestor/Father... we kill him and that's it. Don't get me started on Malenia... Before Release we thought we could either team up with her or Radahn and she was an important and recurring character in the game, seeing as she was one of the first characters we saw along with Radagon and Godfrey. Instead she literally tells you her name and dies. It's making me cringe to an extreme degree. I'm really bummed about this as I though the point of ER was to NOT cut much stuff and go all out with the size and content. Here's hoping this is just a base for some massive DLC...

Bloodborne is my all time favorite game too and probably my favorite piece of fiction as well. It took Lovecraftian ideas and made them EVEN BETTER. You can sink into such a deep Rabbithole of unreal lore and history with it. Look up ''Redgrave'' if you're interested. Vaati's Bloodborne videos are also the best on his channel imo. Elden Ring is a great game and a massive milestone for Fromsoftware specifically but it cannot compete with Bloodborne in any way but Framerate and Open World.

not a fan of old games, nor lovecraft stuff.
good for you. I hope you aren't a fan of DS1 or DeS either cuz both of them are old and had lovecraftian elements. Maybe stop seething just cuz you could never play fromsofts best game XD
i started with ds2 scholar of the 1st sin.
i looked at ds1 but it was too janky and too old.

Wtf? Imagine calling a cosmic horror setting a medieval setting. Dude how lazy must you be to not use google before saying stuff out of your ass (no offense). Also it is Norse not "irish" mythology XD.
what cosmic horror is there in ds1-3? Literally can't name any from the top of my head and elden ring had it a bit aswell, but way mroe beghind the scenes than bb

This is not your opinion, this is opinion of other people. You are not even trying to rephrase it.
Gramps, my opinion is DS1 and DeS have cosmic horror in em. Gramps look up the difference between evidence and opinion on google :)
