Elden Ring not using my GPU and using 100% of my CPU
Hello guys,

I'm sorry to bother some of you but I bought elden ring a few days ago and my GPU is 3% used and the CPU is 100% used while i have lowered the graphics and resolution, forced my Nvidia to be the default GPU for the game, and closed everything beside the game.

My setup is a Intel Core i5 7300 2.50Ghz and an NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1050 2GB.

I know it's not the best but i always managed to run heavy games with huge render distance so i think there is a bug maybe or something that isn't a material problem and it shouldn't use so much of my CPU i think?

Can someone please give me some advices?

your laptop is ass for gaming+ this game is on the heavy side, but try everything to give your parts more power. Plug in cable, select high power mode, set the game to prefer maximum performance in the nvdia control panel.

first of all how do you determine that elden ring is not using your gpu because i find that rather unbelieveable.

this isn't even close to the first time this kind of thing has happened with fromsoft games.

you set it as the default gpu for the game in the nvidia settings thing, right?

other approaches to possibly consider include disabling your on-board graphics.

https://errorfixer.co/elden-ring-how-to-fix-game-not-using-gpu-low-gpu-usage/#Disable_Internal_GPU_using_Device_Manager

this explains how to do that, both in device manager and by going into your bios.

your way below minimum specs
not even close
you are miles away from minimum specs

your cpu is not good enough for that game...
your gpu isnt good enough for the game either

i wonder if your post is a troll ?

here's a video of elden ring running on similar specs, as far as i can tell:

some ppl dont mind gaming on 480p

That video has double the gpu memory and tbh

while it showed 36fps on lowest details in an area !!!without enemies!!!!
it also had massive micro stutters.....
and you could see there was like no performance difference between lowest and maximum
so the CPU was limiting

and you could see in the end when he approached church it went down to 32fps.....
will only get massivly worse when he actually fights things

ye, it wont be a smooth gaming experience

I mean its nice that it shows ~ 30fps.... but when you have micro stutters all over the place that doesnt really matter....

i remember on former old pc system
i5 3570 RX480-4GB and 8gb memory i modded tomb raider
and while i had constant 59fps.... i had micro stutters from hell and it was almost unplayable....

so shown average fps is not everything

alright:

here's one with the same card. more ram, though, but honestly, that's not even material to what the guy is asking. and you were totally guessing for your first post. get on topic.

do you have any suggestions on how to fix his issue?

The devs of the game say:

Our game is not made to run on these specs that are a big big amount below our minimum specs

User:
Why does game run bad for me ?
-----------------------------------------

---First fix would be to actually have minimum specs before buying a game !---

its no wonder CPU is close to 100% at all times when its massivly below minimum specs....
the the numbers shown on GPU use could be anything.

you can not draw any conclusions from that.

And yeha you might be able to manipulate Elden Ring files
to run on specs way lower than minimum specs.

Still its no guarantee it will work for every system.

So what can you do ?

1.) Search internetz for fps setups on Elden Ring
maybe there are mods on Nexus for that

2.) lower res to below 1080p (like in 2nd video) that is definitely 720p or lower.
in 2nd video there is also no description about anything

3.) Dont use EAC launcher

you might be able to get a playable situation.

But if you dont -> you still have 0 right to complain
Elden Ring was never meant to run on such low specs and devs said that explicit

you're ignoring the fact that it isn't using his GPU. this is an issue that has been reported on *these forums* many times before, in earlier games. like, really, try googling it. you have the wrong of this. it's not their hardware. google it.

And you ignoring the fact that his specs are so much below minimum specs
that this whole discussion is pointless in the first place

be sure to turn off your IGPU
Intel® HD Graphics 620

i've literally posted videos proving that to be wrong, so obviously, i haven't ignored it. he could probably run this at 30 fps if it were drawing from his GPU.

it's not his specs. this is a known issue.

you can try to deactivate the single core boost but as others told you this setup is not fast enough to get enough fps (i also think you running a DDR3 system and even with DDR4 this CPU has a frequenzy limit what limits the bandwidth

DDR 3

1066 8.5 GB/s

1333 10.6 GB/s

1600 12.8 GB/s

1866 14.9 GB/s

DDR4

2133 17 GB/s

that are a available bandwidths for this CPU

at special gaming hardware you can double it with two RAM modules and the right settings in BIOS/UEFI but this is far to low to play this game.
