It's safe if you get it from Nexus Mods.

You will probably be banned if you connect to the official servers, but the mod doesn't connect you to the official servers in the first place. Follow the instructions and you'll be fine.

It even uses a new savefile type, so you cant even use the modded saves in vanilla game :)

Yes it's safe and it's awesome you won't get banned it's really nice if you use mods like for me a performance mod that can't be used online so I can't coop normally but with coop mod I can play with friends at a good fps plus the seamless coop is by far superior than vanilla coop

Downloaded it, playing with 2 friends, no tryhard smurf account invaders with top level gear, we can build how we want (I heal everyone and throw Lightning spears), and WE ARE HAVING FUN!!!!

We know what he meant - unfortunately some folks seemingly choose to word it this way since they would rather not describe how it is online using another connection method.

One of those - not 100% sure about the how, but felt obligated to talk about it things.

Load of rubbish!

TOS only applies to play on the official servers. Playing offline cannot result in a ban.
Normal rules about playing mods offline and making sure they are removed before returning online apply.
It triggers false positives in some low-quality malware scanners. NexusMods make sure all the content uploaded is safe before accepting it on their site. Same for trojans. Same for crypto miners.

Proceed at your own risk... sure. Your game might crash. That happens already with the unmodded version of the game. :D

It's against TOS as much as any other mod, so don't connect to the regular online world while using it. As for malware concerns: False positives are pretty common with heuristic scanners. The mod is open source, so if you'd like to you could look through the files themselves for anything suspicious. If you're not so technically inclined, the mod is tiny at just 388kb and has been out for just under a week by now; If there was something malicious packaged with it, the community would have discovered it already (especially given those the 83,000+ unique downloads).

Now for the full picture, so OP doesn't get misled...

It triggers several malware flags on a shoddy website that does the same thing for virtually any program you ask it to scan.
It's "suspected" to have a crypto miner in the same sense vaccines are "suspected" to have microchips; that is to say, it's a disinformation campaign by people who are salty the mod exists.

Follow the instructions and you'll be fine, OP.
