Well, make up some free space, than. I mean, it literally tells you what to do.

Make space then

It shouldn't need that much space. Probably something to do with the way Steam handles updates.

You'll need more space at first for applying the update for unpacking before the files get overwritten and the downloaded patch files deleted.

It was only a 1gb update and the drive it's on had 80gb open. clearing steam cache fixed the problem though.

That's good. Updates aren't the size you download, though. I don't know how it literally works, but you download some data, and it patches 10 or more times the data on your drive, requireing headroom till the files are patched. You can see this in the new stats when you go to your download tab. It now says the download size and the used hdd size. For Elden Ring, last update was only a few hundred mb, but it says almost 20gb where patched.

There's no way it should need that much for an update though. The entire game only takes 48 Gb.

Dude I got the exact same issue here. 200+ GB of free space and it is saying not enough.

Were you able to fix it?

I'd get it sorta working again, then it'd stop and go back to saying not enough disk space... I just ended up reinstalling it and haven't gotten that message since.
