But that's the thing, the only missing part in Elden Ring is that functionallity to play it online constantly (100% online), without having to be disconnected there and there.
Now this mod enable this missing feature, but also add a limitation, aka, you need to play with restricted/private group. It would have been great to be able to play with random exactly like in vanilla, put to also have a "private" room to play with close friend.
Like that, we have a mod that is superior in every shape and form to the original coop system in the game, and this without drawback.
Yeah, but that's also what I prefer to avoid, this is also the same complain that I have with microsoft studios games (Halo, Grounded etc...) they does not provie matchmaking for coop and instead ask you to go to Discord or LFG to find x and y etc...
So you end up playing tinder simulator asking everywhere if people want to play with you or if you can join, then you need to wait to get an answer(can take hours if they are busy), then to have a mic (because if not, you are in lower priority) and then to play regularly with them, if not they will boot you / replace you with someone that will have closer timezone to them etc....
It also force you to play with the same amount of people unless you are ready to restart the procedure everyday and wait for hours to find a correct group, something that can be fixed by a simple matchmaking (like in the game) or a server list aka, a 1s wait time.
Also, I know that I sound maybe very critical, but I just try to share my opinion on how the only thing that prevent this mod to totally replace the coop portion of the vanilla game is the lack of random matchmaking.
Is this MM (or server list) was implemented on this mod, there would be no interest anymore to play that inferior vanilla coop experience in ER.
you can 100% just set a password and try to join, but it wasn't designed for that, cause its a co-op mod, it was designed to be played with an organized group.
calling the core selling point of the mod a limit is very funny though i admit
It's purposely made this way though and apart from changing the number of people that can connect simultaneously from 4-200+, I don't think he's gonna do anything (if he can do anything) about matchmaking. That'll probably involve money and servers.
The only choices are the mod and vanilla, so it's up to you to weight the pros and cons of both and utilize whichever accordingly.
It is a limitation, because we could have both system working, aka, "private room" for players that want to play with close friends and "open room" for players that are ok to be matched with random. As of right now, there is no system to allow to randomly join someone with matchmaking in the mod, and the use of password is again a minigame of looking outside of the game to find x or y.
It's still a limitation, the core selling point of the mod is to play seamlessly, not to "just" play with your close friend (something you can already do in the vanilla game).
If you say this about MM, then yeah, back then you could do everything simply by MM or server list, no need to install anything or get out of your way to find other players, it was just 1 click = join = play.
As for the other part, I don't have a smartphone (no need) and even if it was the case, I play at hours where using a mic is not possible (it's 3AM right now), hence the issue to go around finding people that would be ok to play without mic (basically like in vanilla).
I see, that's unfortunate, I will stick with the vanilla since I play from time to time and at different hours/day, so not very suited for a "private coop". I hope that one day though, FROM will do a proper online experience for their games.
dunno what to tell you, this mod wasn't meant to play with strangers, its a seamless co-op mod, you generally don't do full playthrough of games with strangers, you either do it with friends or by yourself.
it's not a limitation if it doesn't stop you from doing what you want, its just not designed to help you with it, its steam connections peer to peer.
if you put in a community password you'd connect with strangers, so its obviously a thing you can do, if people wanted that.
Also, people can "matchmake" using the mod by leaving the default password (which I think is 1234) and heading to the regular summoning areas.
Other communities, streamers etc have a community password, for instance, Vaatividya on vanilla has his community password set to SEEKERS so he and other users can presumably summon each other. Others have done this but for the mod.
I don't see where it's a problem ? there is countless of games where you can play coop with random, "Seamless Co-op" mean that it's "Seamless" as opposed of the multiple connection/disconnect that the vanilla force on you, that's it.
It's still a limitation, you don't get the same vanilla experience + seamless, you get seamless - matchmaking. The fact that there is no MM while the vanilla game have it, mean it is a limitation.
Managing password still require that you search for those passwords everywhere.
Yeah it make sense. I know that in other games like Grounded etc.... it's an instant "nope" if you ask to join without mics, so I though we would get the same treatment here.
I see, so I guess I should try this with a bunch of password.
Ultimatly, it would be simpler to have 2 options in the multiplayer tab:
- Open (the mod set a default password and you will be matched with everyone with the "Open" setting)
- Private (you get exactlty what you have now, so set password etc....)
The advantage would be then to be more explicite for people that just want to play with random at any given time, (instead of trying to remember what was the default password).
But yeah, I will try it later to see if with the default password I get some players.
This was earlier today for example:

Doesn't really take long.
I mean the only reason fromsoft implemented anticheat into elden ring is because they were too lazy to fix the remote execution issue, so if you disable anticheat you're potentially opening yourself up to it if any random can connect to your game.
its a mod to play with people you know, its always gonna be a risk to play with randoms.
Now they gotta backport that sh*t to ds1-3 :D
- Updated to be compatible with game version 1.06
- Slight horse rework
- Rot essence now has double the debuff potency per stack. Emaciation no longer reduces attributes. The maximum stacks of any rot is now 5 (from 10)
- The "find target grace site" feature has been improved to work correctly with different map layers
- Fixed a bug that would occasionally cause player's sacred tear progress on their flasks to reset
- Fixed a bug that would occasionally cause a problem displaying evergaol vote messages
You must be using 1.3.1 to connect to other players using this version. To update the mod, you only need to update the elden_ring_seamless_coop.dll file in your current installation. Save files aren't and never will be affected by updates
