Game is stuttering so bad I can't start a game
So I recently got a new PC, saved up some money for a total conversion of my entire old PC, here is my specs,

CPU: Intel(R) Core(TM) i7-6800K CPU @ 3.40GHz
16 gigs of ram
GPU: Nvidia GForce 1060 6GB

And essentially it is stuttering so badly in the menus to where the game is legit unplayable, there's like 4 seconds of it freezing where I cannot put any inputs in, then a small reprieve where the game runs, and at a decent frame rate too, and then it just keeps doing that on repeat. Essentially like a slide show. I looked it up, tried fixing it, redownloaded the game- I'm out of ideas, nothing's working. Please help.

try literally closing everything you can before running the game. All overlays, performance checks, any program that keeps running with ER. Then, slowly go turning them up to check if one of them is actually hindering your performance while the game is open.

I understand they might not interfere with other games but such is the life of a PC gamer.

Also, my CPU is i7-4770, very old and gpu is 1050ti, while I have also the same RAM. Its weird the game is unplayable to you.

some software conflict. not hardware related. as stated close anything unrelated. update windows. update gpu and chipset driver. check if xmp is used. update bios if possible. disable steam overlay. stuff like riva tuner oder msi afterburner are known to have problems. make sure you dont run w11 upgraded from w10 ( clean w11 install is fine). cleqan windows after hardware change also never hurts anyways. use display driver uninstaller to clean out possible problems.just to name a few things i would try first and that come to my mind

i am not saying these things will fix it but this would be the stuff i would make sure is set up correct first

the game for sure has some problems for some users but what you experience is not common at least from my experience with the problems i have seen reported.

also just to make sure since you got your new parts have you used the pc for any other demanding game or app ? or is elden ring your first ?

Your "new" pc is near the minimum requirements, try turning down some gfx options in the ingame menu.
Sonnenbank May 26, 2022 @ 10:45am
While your new PC is ~ 2016 standard it should still be enough to run elden ring on low details 1080p.

There has to be some external factor that destroys your performance
have you tried any benchmarks on other games to see if your system delivers the results it should ?

Whoa that GPU is pretty low dude, maybe you should've waited until you had enough money for an actual gaming rig.

Just to clarify I wasn't trying to be rude. I'm just saying, the GPU you have is the one I have in a PC I bought like years ago and now use for my cyber security/CTF's/'ethical' hacking stuff. I used to game on it and its not terrible but hell you could've done A LOT better if you just waited a bit, then you'd be set.

Your pc can run Elden Ring just fine, just make sure you disable nvidia shadowplay and turn of some options, my guess is that it's overheating an then throtteling.

the problems he describes are not low framerates. he has severe problems that are not related to performance. yes his pc is not the fastest but can get a perfectly fine experience once he solves the non performance related problems with that system. will he have locked 60 maxed out @4k with that pc. no but thats not his problem right now

you need to open nvidia control panel
with the game closed
right click your desktop, choose nvidia control panel
to the left choose manage 3d settings
in the middle choose program settings, add eldenring.exe (should be a recent program, if not locate it in your game directory)
scroll down, for CUDA, select your 3060 ONLY
there may be a power management option, if so- select prefer maximum performance
click save at bottom right

if you are using a controller,
right click elden ring in your steam library
properties
controller
disable

ER detects the controller through the OS. if you have steam input enabled, ER will detect two sources for the controller, creating stutter, especially when engaging in combat or triggering a script such as being detected by an enemy or taking environmental damage.

run the game in borderless window mode, not full screen.

My pc is worse than his and rans the game fine o HIGH settings. No need for him to tune it down. His problem is something else. You guys shouldn't be giving tips if you don't know about that hardware's performance.

What's your point? You don't know it's NOT the problem either.
This is pretty much much the worst advice I've seen in weeks, actually no advice at all just bragging about stuff you don't know anything about.
Move along if you don't have anything helpfull to say.

This first sentence: 'So I recently got a new PC, saved up some money for a total conversion of my entire old PC, here is my specs,' I don't know what this means. Is this PC actually new, or a used PC he bought on eBay, or is it his old PC with some parts replaced? The hardware he lists is old so how could it be a new PC? If it's an even older PC he 'upgraded' then other components like RAM, HD, chipsets, power supply etc. could cause the stuttering.

He is giving advice. He gave specific suggestions. There may be hardware or software configuration issues that OP needs to address. He doesn't have to immediately sacrifice graphical fidelity.

All you told OP to do was lower graphics lol.

So far I have tried Destiny 2, which has its own issues related to the drivers for my audio, which I have fixed.

And I have done all of the following things you've mentioned, if anything it got worse when I did that. I don't think it is a hardware issue because legit everything in this PC is 'relatively' brand new, not the newest stuff on the market- but a very large leap than to what I was playing on previously-

if you built it yourself it would be worth checking the device manager and check for any exclamation marks on anything that might indicate needing a driver, if you bought it from a store it can be quite common a component or cable may be loose, could try powering down and checking all the internal connections, remove any bloatware that came with it, things like the asus armoury crate, most systems should come with xmp enabled in the bios too to ensure your ram is running at the advertised speeds
