Best beginner early game weapons?
Kind of suck at the game. Bosses kill me 10+ times before I do anything. I’m a confessor with bewitching branch about 3 hours in. What are some good weapons and Armor I should dsidetrack and get before I continue?

I really don’t understand why people reccomend weapons that need regular smithing stones for upgrades. These weapons are way more difficult to upgrade early on.
You can get special weapon to +6 without killing any boss. +10 can be done relatively early. All speedrunes use special weapons because it’s simply faster and easier.

Regular weapons are about twice as hard to upgrade. You need way more materials that are more difficult to find and available later in the game. They are good but they catch up late in the game.

That is why we have recommended Bloodhound's Fang. Easy(ish) to get, easy(ish) to upgrade to +4. And very powerful. :)

I recommend regular smithing stones because that's all you need to clear Limgrave / Weeping Penisula/ Castle Stormveil. You can pick up more than 100 Smithing Stones (1) before even leaving Limgrave and upgrade a bunch of weapons to +3. And also enough Smithing Stones (2) to upgrade some favorite weapons a bit more.
Ofc it's still a good choice to get the Bloodhound Fang, but I would never recommend to upgrade it too high related to your level.
In case you want participate in multiplayer you want stay in matchmaking range and follow the normal progression route. Also it's very boring to get such an OP weapon too early and then oneshot every mob on your way through the first areas. Such a playstyle won't help in later areas, and in late game you would be shocked about the difficulty increase.

BF as others suggested for dex spec. Powerstance katanas or curved blades with arcane spec. You can try str shield spec for guard counter and parry if that's your playstyle thing. 2h str jump spec sucks early game until you get all buffs, but you can try.

Besides that there's caster specs, I highly recommend spellblade spec, I think it's most fun and encompasses both melee and caster spells. Faith is rather OP if you gather stuff for it specifically, but you gotta go around the map and skip ahead to get a jump start for it, check youtube guide if interested.

You can just go around Godrick’s castle and get special weapon to +4 at Ranni’s smith. +5 and +6 stones are also easy to get. +10 stone can be collected in Mogh’s area after beating Godrick.

It’s not about specific weapon like Bloodhound’s Fang. I wonder how people can recommend Uchigitana over let say Moonveil katana that is twice as easy to upgrade. Uchigitana is not bad but having Moonveil at +6 (equals to about +14-16 of normal weapon) before first boss makes it so easy it’s like cheating.

Special weapons are also easier to use without needing a buff or changing ash of war.

For a brand new player to Souls games, this advice is just not very good. They will not have the skills to survive even getting into Stormveil Castle. Much less move around and defeat the enemies within.

I am a new player to Souls games (never defeated the first boss in DS 1/2/3). But, with the Bloodhound's Fang at +2 and Banished Knight Engval, I was able to defeat Godrick; no player summons either. All offline. The gear and skills are all there in Limgrave area to get and learn.

I’m not talking about going trough the castle but around it. Like next to it without going inside.
They can check wiki or YT how to do it but even if they don’t it’s always easer to upgrade special weapons. You need 1 stone to level up vs up to 6 stones. Also special weapon get stronger 2.5x faster per level vs normal weapon. +10 vs +25 levels.
Normal weapon route is way harder in my opinion.

Somber smithing stone weapons can't be modified in any way. What they have initially is what you have to live with. Speedrunners don't have any other option since getting through all the main bosses as fast as possible is their only goal. Regular players roam around the world without such worries.

Makes no difference. Somber weapons are easier to upgrade - especially early on. This makes the first half of the game waaay easier. You can have +10 weapon before leaving the capital. +25 weapon is possible almost at the end of the game.
Bloodhound’s Fang can’t have different skill but can be buffed with an item or magic. You can trivialise early game if you know where to get somber stones.

A new player doesn't know where to get all somber stone variants. Getting a somber stone 5 and 6 before Altus Plateu blindly is up to luck. And how many new players end up in Moghwyn Palace early to get the last upgrade? Difference between +9/10 somber weapon and at least +20 regular is not big.

If you want to make most enemies in the game pretty easy then farm two curved swords from enemies and put to them an ash of war which gives them blood affinity(because it's op). You can get such an ash of war from a fort in the first area and can duplicate it at the blacksmith after finding a certain item. Then just use a lot of running and jumping attacks with both weapons equipped.

Also remember to upgrade your Vigor stat from the very beginning. Ignoring it is the main reason why many new players suffer. Upgrade it to 40 before increasing the damage boosting stats(except to fulfill weapon wielding requirements) and combat will be MUCH easier.

You don't have to kill bosses first.
Just ride around wherever you like, there's a lot of stuff to find just laying around the world.

Many players like to play with a wiki, YT or to ask here on forum. If somebody checks how then can get a maxed weapon before the capital. At this point the game can feel broken and too easy for a while.
Even if somebody plays blindly it still easier to find a single somber stone than up to six regular stones. Luck is still on side of somber weapons. You get lucky and you get OP. No luck will make regular weapons that OP early on.

Just finding Ranni gives you access to a shop with +4 somber stones for few weapons (equals to about +10 for regular weapon). Going to kill Radahn and you will likely get to +6 (equals to about +16 of normal weapons).

I don't want to argue or to force my opinion on anybody. It's just my believe that somber weapons are easier. Maybe even too easy comparing to regular weapons. Regular weapons seem to upgrade at the right, intended speed when somber weapons that should be special and more difficult are easier to upgrade. It doesn't make sense and it's so easy to break the game. Why special weapons need so little stones and regular weapons need even six stones? More expensive when each level is 2.5x less valuable than cheaper somber one?

Uchigitana is an amazing weapon and a starting weapon for many BUT moonveil is soooo much easier to upgrade. Like there is no competition. When you get that weapon to +6 your uchigitana will most likely be at half that level and with very limited choice of weapon skills.

These are my arguments why somber weapons are easier. If somebdy disagree then it's fine.
