In fact when that happens, many many times, the player can get out of the room without killing the knight.
Although most of them die almost always xDDDD
The only thing you can do is take aggro and wait for the host to be competent enough to survive.
That makes some sense, since Gostoc is the one that locks you in there. I've never managed to check that because running back to that room would be quite the detour.
Do people kill him because of the rune percentage he takes on death? I can't imagine why else they would.
Maybe accident, maybe people kill everything lol...
I usually camp in stormveil as a sunbro/invader/host so ive fought that banished knight a thousand times, and im quite convinced that EVERY TIME that the summon cant damage the knight, the host could just leave the room (although they never manage to do that lol).
Also the "cutscene" where the lights turn off and that doesnt get active those times where you cant deal damage.
The only explanation i find is the one about gostoc being dead. But i cant be 100% sure.
