Finger Seal: what does it do?
I started a Confessor character with sword, shield, and Finger Seal on PC. What is the Finger Seal supposed to do? It is in my left hand armament slot. When I click right mouse, there is apparently a casting animation, but I don't see that anything has happened.
The best I can find seems to describe boosting Incantations, but nothing is clear to me. The only spells I have are Urgent Heal and Assassin's Approach in my two memory slots. I activate those with R on the keyboard.
What is the right mouse click doing?

It seals your finger, for those times when you have uncontrollable finger leaks.

Edit: or it allows you to cast spells, specifically incantations.

Finger but hole?

In order to cast incantation magic you need a seal. There are different types of seals depending on your scaling and the fingerseal is like the allrounder with decent scaling.

There are better seals that you can find later, but since you apparantly don´t know yet which style of magic you are going to use most I recommend sticking to this seal for now.

In order to cast spells you need to assign them first which you can do at any grace.

No, typical noobie mistake and game logic misnomer.

It actually prevents fingering.

It actually looks like a cigar cutter.
Get yourself a better one OP. All you have to do is avoid a homicidal chariot, a legion of ghosts and some poison.

You are welcome oh....im talking about Fringefolk hero grave.

Thank you, Humpenstilzchen, at least someone cared to give a real answer instead of puking childish drivel.
I think I got it now.

Finger Seal is used to cast Incantations - you have Urgent Heal (which is imo quite useful to keep) and Assassain's Approach (silences your footsteps, which is good but you can also craft Cotton, which does same thing without eating FP). Incantations generally consist of Fire and Lightning damage for offense, healing, buffs, status, and utility, but there's lots of stuff you can do with it. I use Incantations on basically all my characters. Your Faith stat makes your Incantations stronger (more damage, more healing, but buffs are always the same), and your Finger Seal has a stat called Scaling - that's the most important stat, as it increases your damage healing / healing as well. Scaling on your Seal goes up by using Smithing Stones to increase its level (+1, +2, +3, etc), the same way your weapons go up in damage. Finger Seal is the basic one, the other seals like Godslayer Seal gives a +20% Damage Bonus to a specific group of Incantations while still being just as good with other incantations.

Staff is used to cast Sorceries - these are mostly DPS, non-elemental Magic damage (other than Frost). There's no healing, a small handful of buffs and Frost status, but it does damage and it does it very well. Intelligence is the stat used for Sorcery, increasing your damage. Scaling on Staves is the same concept as Seals or weapons: increased with smithing stones, higher scaling is always better. Astrologer and Prisoner start with a staff and at least 1 good sorcery if you want to see how those work too.

For Incantations, there's a few ways to get to the Roundtable Hold, which has a monk who sells a few useful Incantations like Flame Sling (throw a fireball, kinda short distance) and Catch Flame (melee range, like a Touch spell from Oblivion, but its fast, cheap, and does great damage). Cure Poison is helpful to learn too, does exactly what you think it does.

The sword that Confessor starts with is also a pretty solid weapon btw, if you're not sure what to use its a good choice till you find something you like or it can honestly get you through the whole game.

Or you could have just, you know, read the item description.
And if that is too cryptic, use this thing called Google, I hear it's almost magic.

Instead of puking lazy drivel on a forum about something that is self-explanatory or at the very least easy to find out by yourself.

Now, everyone can ask a question, and that is good and right and also partially what forums are for, but you could at least have tried to understand before asking such a question.

People, me included, were likely not taking you seriously and / or suspected a troll (as there's a bit of a troll problem here), and you wouldn't be the first to innocently ask a "No Duh" question in order to get responses.

So I, at least, would apologise for offending you - except you called it childish drivel puke and for that, well.
Let's just leave it at that.

go to a grace and memorize spell.
then use the seal to cast it, like a weapon attack (RB or R1)

So you basically decided to troll this guy because there was the possibility that his question could possibly be trolling?

What a nice attitude
