The problem in this game isn't difficulty (Or lack thereof) but the meaningless of the challenge
It is no secret that FromSoft makes quite difficult games, but I am baffled by the people claiming that the difficulty is what makes them good. I will be presenting a rather unpopular opinion here, but the combat of Soulsborne is usually not that great. There is a lot of jank, especially with hitboxes, and there are a lot of frustrating aspects. The difficulty in these games serve a purpose, they tell and pace the story. It is not random difficulty that made those games fun. Sure, it is satisfying to overcome a significant challenge, but in the original Dark Souls, that catharsis was only a small part, I'd argue. The real joy in Dark Souls was the story, and the difficulty was the means in which that story was told. I argue that the hollowing mechanic is the single most significant part of this, as DS1 was about how purpose gives meaning. If you lose your purpose, you lose everything. This is why you fight on, because the only other option is to hollow and fade away. However, I do not get this in Elden Ring. There is no doom that follows me if I stop. Conversely, there is no real reason to proceed either, story-wise. This is the first FS game I played where the endgoal seems to be power for the sake of power. You are not searching for the fate of the Undead, you are not seeking a cure for your ailment, you are just pursuing the power of being the Elden Lord for... no reason in particular. And this is my biggest complaint with the game, not that it is difficult but that the difficulty has no meaning. What are your thoughts on this?

EDIT: Just to clarify, I do not think ER is a bad game by any metric, and I did enjoy my time with it quite a bit. I do believe the balance broken, sometimes in favour of the player and sometimes against. I do not think it is a "Hard" game, nor an easy one. And I want to explore the opinions of other people in a level-headed discussion here.

I am not buying it my dude, you played your hand too early and your first post starts off with you being 'baffled' by other peoples opinions and experiences.

80% of your post is you passing off your opinion as fact while making claims that are demonstrably false just by looking at the wiki, let alone playing the games. You want to discuss your viewpoint and explain it and talk about it which is fine but you dressed it up in contrarianism and a false moral high ground as if appeals to popularity aren't equally as meaningless both ways.

This is why your every reply is just moving the goalpost, deflecting or being unwilling to accept what people are telling you. You didn't come here to learn anything, you came here to be right.
There I fixed it so it doesn't sound like you are talking for everyone!
